RE: GPS Re-location - 6

Tony T sent me the spring. He felt it was needed because some users found the screen would drop from High to Low because the increased weight. Because I leave my screen on the lowest setting, it has not been a problem and I have not tried to replace it.

My guess is that it is a straight replacement for the standard RS spring, as it does look a bit heavier. If that is the case you will need to fashion a spring puller to hook off and hook on the springs. If it is identical, I guess you will have to just hook on the second spring. With 2 springs I suspect the movement up and down will be difficult.

One of the items I didn't like about the bike was the positioning of the BMW Navigator. As I see it, you have the look down just a bit too much, taking your eyes off the road. My previous bike, a 2016 GS had the GPS mounted above the clockwork and that I really liked.

I've now seen 4 different solutions from different manufacturers.

1) MV Motorrad Technik: click

2) Hornig: click

3) RS Motorcycle solutions click

4) The one I have was made in Australia and called the Vortex GPS mount bracket made by Hightide Technologies. Unfortunatley there are not available anymore.

This is was a wise recommendation on the old forum which I copied and works very well. And the screen is able to be moved to low or high while on the move.
The aluminium cost less than R100.00

No obstruction and no vibration.

The man responsable for the Vortex GFPS mount bracket was active on the previous Forum as "TonyT". I made him aware of the new forum, but I don't believe he ever joined us here. Perhaps you'll find a used version in "Buy and Sell" some day.

I corresponded privately with TonyT. He is a remarkable man, and one day I hope I will met him in Sydney when I get up there. I think that he was disappointed with the take-up of his product.

The Vortex is a wonderful device, but it obviously cost a great deal more to make than, for example, the simple uplift bracket that Alda had in comparison.

One of the things I will need to establish before I go further in considering an RS1250 is if the Vortex will fit. It would be a deal breaker for me if it didn't.

Hello, I was thinking in changing the GPS position, and my first idea was making myself a new support above the dash board Hornig style, but then I was thiking that perhaps current position could be much easier improved by reversing the original support, which would make the GPG screen advance about 5.5cm.. Does anyone made this change? I think that it would not interfere the dashboard vision, and in my case, I have an push button, so neither interfere with the ignition of the bike...

I installed the MV set with the RAM X-grip a couple of weeks ago and very pleased with it, the nav now sits nicely in sight above the instruments, so I can see the road ahead on the nav app (MyRouteApp navigation). Or alternatively I have the TomTom digital speedo and speed camera warning app running on my phone, when I know the way already. [wink]

Thank you. It was a proposal from the seller, but I see that they don't have clear knowledge about some technical features... Then, I will probably.go for the Hornig support.

@Txema, it does pretty much what I think you were after.

The jury's still out for me on whether I think I would prefer where the Vortex mounts vs Alda's bracket. The vortex reposition is a better line of sight, but a further reach. Alda's is simple, easily available, and improves the factory mount point just enough. In my natural riding position, the GPS sits immediately below the dash in my line-of-sight and is still in easy reach for touchscreen use.
