I really (REALLY) want to buy the 1250RS, as I'm currently the owner of a RR and an F800GT and want to go down to one bike (I'm 74 and have no problems with those bikes, but am weary of chain maintenance and the overall demands of owning 2 machines that require care). Having been through many iterations of windscreen-swapping with every bike I've owned, going through it again is a daunting prospect. The 1250RS is a terrific bike, except - as I mentioned - a hideously noisy windscreen. Going to a higher screen sounds good, in theory, but my experience is that higher is just another word for "noisier". |

Out of the box, I'd say way better for me than OEM. In lower position it was less noisy, still noise, but less and significantly less bad buffeting, but still threw a fair bit of wind towards my helmet. I suspect this will be good for spring/fall. Higher position got the air just about over my helmet, but the top vent was in the wind, providing some cooling as they day warmed up. My seat height went up 1-2" at the same time and thus I think another inch of screen height might be ideal, but if you have OEM seat, I'd say Givi is worth considering. That said, my assessment from reading many posts on this forum is the dilemma you describe: go short to reduce some noice and buffeting, but live in the wind; or go big to attempt to escape all 3. Anything in the middle seems to not work well for most. As such, if I decide to buy another screen, I suspect I'll go Cal Scientific XL for winter... and possibly Sport or Shorty for summer. These days I now pay attention to how my helmet fits snugly round my neck. I wear custom plugs and can flex my jaw muscles while riding and detect a change in noise level. I don’t want to hermetically seal my helmet, but do sometimes tuck my neck warmer up into the helmet. We’re all different shapes and sizes so why are we surprised that the majority are not comfortable with the OEM set up.

I’m almost exactly the same height / torso as you. I’m on my 3rd RS.(34k miles) Always used the stock screen in the lowest position. I have had two helmets in that time both Shoei GT Air. I have messed about with the cheek pads to get a better seal and a neck muff also can help a lot. |

I swapped the standard screen for VStream 15" "Sport" screen and it is slightly better than the standard in low setting and considerably better in the high setting. I use the high setting on occasional motorway riding but other than that the low setting works for me. Standard screen was OK for me in the low setting but was very loud in the high. I tried an MRA touring screen before the VStream and it made no difference to the standard. VStream fits at a steeper angle on the bike with longer bushings, I think that where it is making a difference. I always use earplugs so have no reference without them. |

My F800GT has a well-known noisy screen and some guys have swapped for Madstad. Tried one and nearly roasted on a warm day. My RR has a sport screen, obviously, and that bike is MUCH quieter to ride than my GT. The shame of it is...the GT is a decent bike that I'd like to ride long distance on, but I can do 300 miles in the mountains in a day on my RR, whereas on the GT I'd wind up with a migraine and a massive hatred for the GT. |

Too many variables for one screen to suit all - seat height, torso length, torso bulk, neck length, head size, helmet size, helmet make, helmet design, bar risers/no bar risers, air temperature range in which one rides, etc, etc 19 Plate R1250RS Exclusive with "bells & whistles" & full colour matched luggage |

The trouble with all this is it’s such a faff! ATGATT, neck muff, ear plugs, layers, zips, boots, laces, communicators, sat navs, Coms, Bluetooth etc etc. I thought bikes were the way to freedom on the roads. But now it would take me about 20 mins to catch the car that left the front door at the same time I did, if ever! What happened to those days when I threw on a Nylon anorak, bunged a wobbly Kangol on my noggin and roared off down the road on my 500/4 in my jeans and plimsoles?[/quote] |

I agree, and there was no intention to encourage riding without the proper gear. I know it’s value, my first RS was written off following a hit and run at some traffic lights. It was just a wistful recollection of simpler (not necessarily better) times. |

Thanks, going to have one more play with the standard screen and if no major improvement will order one, I had a vstream on my previous bike a 1200rt and it was so quiet and peaceful behind it, that I took it off as too hot in summer and was difficult to judge speed as almost car like behind it |
