SOLVED!!

Bought the Puig touring screen to try and eliminate some of the wind noise because the standard screen was deafening to the point I bought some earplugs for the first time so I could actually ride it for any length of time without fear of ear damage. I'm pleased to say the wind noise has been completely eliminated when mounting on the highest point and the screen is raised. In the lower position, It is more than acceptable that I still don't need the earplugs. I'm 5'9 and that was £70 well spent.

A bit of a late reply, I know but have been experimenting with airflow in the last few weeks due to the quiet roads. I have tried most screens including this one and have made a discovery regarding the hideous wind noise I’ve experienced on on the RS bikes especially. Its not really the screens fault but rather my square shoulders in combination with the slightly leaning forward position Whilst riding. Basically the air hits my shoulders and is funnelled straight up to the neckline of my helmet, casing the roaring sound. Only when I sit up bolt upright almost leaning back slightly that it goes / is reduced. Could explain a lot for other riders. All I need now is a solution!!!

I've fitted some up and back risers as well as a taller screen, and as well as improving comfort, the risers may well have helped with the big improvement in noise levels.

Thanks to this thread and the reasonable price of this Puig touring screen, I have ordered one. I’m 6’1” but long legs / short body so we will see if it works for me, I like the standard screen for looks and airflow so for shorter rides I’m ok with it, I just want a quieter option for touring trips and one that doesn’t compromise the looks too much - if I wanted an RT I would have ordered an RT, you know what I mean.
I always wear ear plugs , regardless.

I’ll give my views once received and tested, hopefully in the next week or so.

I’m a fan of a low screen as it’s proven to my satisfaction to suit my height, my weight, my seat, my riding position.

Wind noise, turbulence, buffeting, call it what you will, is merely the result of putting YOUR ears where the wind comes off the top of YOUR screen.

The last pic shows that I’m very exposed, but that’s exactly what makes it comfortable for me. The wind speed lifts the weight off my wrists. The turbulent (noisy) airstream is hitting my shoulders not my helmet.

We’re all different.

No amount of manufacturer wind tunnel testing is going to be right for a high percentage of riders. Similarly, accessory screens simply provide more of the same at extra cost.

I have only been driving short Screens for 35 years, and I also switched back to short on my FJ1200 two weeks ago.
I am 1.79 m tall with Legs inside Length 84 cm.
