RE: 1250 RS Windscreen - Loud! - 2

I also go with Lee and GG’s experience that higher is often not the answer.

Had similar problem. Replaced with a ZTeknik VStream touring screen mounted on the “bottom” holes. Problem solved......but there is less fresh air for cooling. My Schuberth C3’s vents don’t flow air with this screen but my HJC FG jet flows plenty (top vent is slightly further back). In its highest position there is zero noise or turbulence.......to the degree that I could probably smoke a cigarette at 100mph without any problems........except that I gave up in 1991......and I’d pick up a speeding ticket.....

I installed a GIVI touring screen the day I got the bike. On the lower position, it works for me , I am 5'10 , I get some wind but tolerable even on 500/600 kms day trip.

Which model of Vstream did you get, was it the medium one, or the tallest one? Have you got any pictures of how it looks on the bike?

Its the "touring" screen - the tall one. Pt No Z2375

Here's a picture of it . Currently set on higher mounts in lower position (just checked as different to my earlier post). My line of sight is about 50-75mm above the top lip of the screen. All but top of my helmet is in still air (can ride with visor up at 70mph plus). When raised, it is much taller and I have to look through the screen. I use the regular std seat and I'm around 5'9".

Been down the wind noise road before with other bikes. I test rode the new RS today, and it was brilliant in every way except for the windscreen. What a noise generator! How do you guys deal with this? I can't believe I'm the only one who noted heavy noise in my helmet (Shoei RF-1200 and custom earplugs, as well as balaclava and neck gaiter). I couldn't ride 20 miles with this noise without going crazy.

Looking at VStream sport/tour replacement (3" taller than stock). Any higher and it looks "wrong" on this bike. Would love to own this bike, but not if I can't defeat the poor screen design with a superior replacement.

Anyone swapped out their 1250's screen yet? Results?

The bike was set up with the windscreen mounted in the lower holes...this could be a factor. As far as positions, I tried low and high...both noisy. I surmise that mounting the screen in the upper holes would make a difference...as would a taller windscreen, say the VStream sport/tour, which is 3" higher. The V-notch in the OEM screen does not make any sense to me.

Also, I would suggest considering Aeroflow. I tried the middle size Ztechnic and didn't see any benefit, but did realize a 2-mpg drop in range.

To clarify, I've returned to the stock shield in the highest position after trying the medium size National/Ztechnic. I'm 6"-1', wear ear plugs and a Shoei full-face helmet (usually, the shield is slightly open, first or second notch above closed).

I suggested the Aeroflow products based on my prior oilhead RS experience. In my opinion, the Aeroflow ad copy may have a modest dose of pseudo-technical BS, but they seem to make products that work well. If I was looking to upgrade in the US, they would be my choice at this time........going for their tallest sports shield. It's not a lot bigger than the stock shield, but it does have the reverse curvature at the top. The medium Ztechnic didn't have that feature and didn't do more than add drag in my experience.
