I really (REALLY) want to buy the 1250RS, as I'm currently the owner of a RR and an F800GT and want to go down to one bike (I'm 74 and have no problems with those bikes, but am weary of chain maintenance and the overall demands of owning 2 machines that require care). I am 5'10" with 32" inseam. I swapped the standard screen for VStream 15" "Sport" screen and it is slightly better than the standard in low setting and considerably better in the high setting. I use the high setting on occasional motorway riding but other than that the low setting works for me. Standard screen was OK for me in the low setting but was very loud in the high. I tried an MRA touring screen before the VStream and it made no difference to the standard. VStream fits at a steeper angle on the bike with longer bushings, I think that where it is making a difference. I always use earplugs so have no reference without them.

Which mounting holes are you using...upper or lower? It's helpful to know which position works, but better to know both position and mounting holes. Thanks.

The thing about taller screens is the tendency to make you hot on a warm/hot day. My F800GT has a well-known noisy screen and some guys have swapped for Madstad. Tried one and nearly roasted on a warm day. My RR has a sport screen, obviously, and that bike is MUCH quieter to ride than my GT. The shame of it is...the GT is a decent bike that I'd like to ride long distance on, but I can do 300 miles in the mountains in a day on my RR, whereas on the GT I'd wind up with a migraine and a massive hatred for the GT.

I am using the upper mounting holes. I tried the lower ones and it was not much different, upper ones feel a little quieter.

Just a thought - got down into the stillness that sits behind my Aeroflow windshield last weekend.... What a racket these bikes make. These R bikes, I'll tell ya', make me glad for the noise of the airflow.

Just ordered a Z-tecknik Vstream Z2373, the smaller of the 3 screens for the r1250rs from Motoworks, was originally going to try the medium one (z2374), but not in stock anywhere, and after playing with the original, the lower settings appear to be slightly quieter, although still noisey.
Should arrive on Wednesday so hopefully will be able to fit and evaluate on a 450 mile round trip to Devon next weekend, hopefully it will offer an improvement over the stock screen🤞, will let you know how it goes.

I’ve ordered the middle size in the VStream screens. The standard screen was noisy and my visor got absolutely covered in dead midges. Under the present restrictions I can’t ride the bike b4 the beginning of April. The screen should arrive just before then. All I need then is a nice dry day.
I have one fitted to my bike. It’s much better than the stock screen. The only thing it does do is it appears to push the wind to the side and makes my arms much colder. I don’t think it’s just in my. Other than that it’s much better than the stock screen

Oh well, fitted the smallest of the 3 vstream windscreens and set off to see if any reduction in noise, started at lowest setting and worked by way up to the lowest of the higher position, and must say still a lot of wind noise and very little difference between it and the stock screen, didn't try the highest setting, as the dark tint made caused a bit of a blind spot, maybe try when the sun is out.
Beginning to wonder if its the helmet, as got a new bmw system 7 when I got the bike,so going to dig out previous system 5 or 6 and try to see if that makes any improvement starting with the original screen.
If I can't get it quieter it might get traded for a gs or possibly and r or rt

I've got the short and medium Ztechnik.
Low is very similar to stock one, but in the highest possible position I can eliminate wind noise if I look across the wind shield, but its uncomfortable
With the medium one the problem is solved if I use higher mounting holes

Thanks for the information, no problems with the English, always good to get feedback on what others are using, wasn't happy with the highest setting as felt the dark screen caused a bit of an obstruction of view.

Looking at the MRA vario deflectors with or without their windscreens at present, but may try the medium clear Ztechnik screen as had great success with their screens on by previous R1200RT.

Did around 120 miles on Tuesday with the stock screen set in the lowest position but with my old system 6 helmet and it was quieter than my new bmw system 7, although most of the miles where on local roads at between 20 and 60mph, so also looking into different helmets.
Hopefully I'll eventually find a solution that works for me, as apart from the wind noise its an absolutely fabulous bike in every other respect.

So to revive a dead thread. I'm 6'1" with a 30" inseam. So for the tall / fellow oddly shaped people what windscreen works for you? Wanting to get out of the wind a bit for winter.

Difficult to give any advice but see my earlier post - ideally buy used and keep changing until you find what you want. Or maybe borrow from a fellow rider for a 30 minute try out ride? But neither of those may be achievable with any speed. So a couple of things to mention:

1. What seat are you on 820mm or 840mm Sports seat?
2. Do you have bar risers?

Both of those will impact on how high you want to go with your screen

I can see you are in the US. I do not know your cheapest options for purchase there so forgive me for quoting UK prices and vendors. I suggest that you search Ebay "Windscreens R1250RS" and Nippy Normans in the UK for some ideas.

There are two relatively inexpensive options that have got to be worth considering before moving on namely Givi (e.g. £90 from Nippy Normans) and Puig (circa £105 on Ebay but £74.99 at Sportsbikeshop). I would try one of those before moving on to more exotic and expensive options. I think the Givi is taller than the Puig but have not checked.

I have a Givi that I put on the bike within weeks of purchase. I have it on the higher mounting points and ride with it on the lower setting on lower speed roads (Up to UK national 60 mph) I put it on the higher setting for motorways and in heavy rain. I also mounted an Xcreen over the top but have since taken that off. It might go on again over the winter but I doubt it.

So I am on a Sports 840mm seat and have bar risers. I am long of trunk and short of limb (5ft 8.5" and 29" inseam) and riding with a C4 helmet which I like to ride with visor open when dry (I wear glasses so my eyes are protected).

You could do worse that start with a Givi and if not high enough add an Xscreen. Both will be readily saleable if you want to move on.

I like the look of the Givi. On the higher setting it sort of stands proud of the bodywork but does not overwhelm the profile or look like a barn door.

Hope that helps but it may only serve to confuse!!

P.S. You may have someone on this site who lives locally to you that might let you try out their screen.

What happens when you mount the stock shield in the "high" set of mounting holes and rotate the rocker mount to high position? Is that better or worse?
