I’ve been through both Zumo 550 and Zumo 660 for several years, but after playing with the NAV6 screen on display at BMW Garmisch in 2018, I decide I “needed” one.

The look and feel were a significant improvement in my mind.

So I acquired a slightly used NAV6 in the winter of 2018/2019 and have been happy with it since then.

Selling my 660 softened the blow ££££ a little.

I’ve beaten Basecamp into submission and also use Garmin devices every day on 4 wheels too.

I like to plan big trips on the PC and can easily plan short trips on the device with a map beside me - as I did today for a scenic 200 miles drive home.

I like to review where I’ve been and often chuckle when I compare the “actual” track to the “planned” route.

We’re all different. The big boys and girls just make their own decisions.

Life isn’t about how many Votes or Likes you get on “Social Media”.

Best BaseCamp tutorial what I have seen:

My Navigator 6 arrived this morning. It is way faster than my Zumo 660 and appears a lot more functional. Not yet linked it up to bluetooth etc which is reputedly the Achilles heel but so far so good.

I have now got to move most of 8 years of Favourites across to the new device. I don't suppose there is a fast way of doing that?

Seems like Garmin Express saves the Favorites whenever you do a map update.
Open Garmin Express and click on Tools and Content
Click on Utilities
Click on Transfer Favorites

Recommend you use a micro SD card. Otherwise, after you've copied routes or waypoints into the device memory, it becomes difficult to remove them. Not a problem initially but it gets cluttered up with old stuff. Instead, copy them into the SD card and "import" from there, and you can more easily clear out the SD card when needed.

Thanks fellas for your help. I shall get round to the task of sorting my Favourites in the next couple of days.

First task was to check out the newly arrived Nav 6 and make sure everything was working properly before giving the vendor positive feedback on Ebay or returning it if defective.

The RS is a tight fit in half a garage together with the F800GT and an Ebike so yesterday evening I explore the device in the house. Battery was very low and attaching to a USB charging device did next to nothing to improve the situation so I began to think I had a battery that would not hold its charge and was muttering to myself about the vendor pulling a fast one.

Late afternoon today when the rain finally stopped I finished work and rode down to my tyre fitters to ask about a part-worn Z8 front tyre (the subject of another thread) and, of course, fitted the Nav 6 for the 10 mile round trip. Everything seemed OK except I could not get the multi-function wheel to work at all although the Nav 6 was displaying bike info.

On my return and, sat on the drive, still no joy so there was nothing for it I had to RTFM! There eventually I discover that the Menu button has yet another toggle function to "change the operating focus" (p105) and then everything worked! I feel sure there is scope for a degree course in BMW technology!!

Oh and the battery now looks fine and seems to be holding its charge. As I now know the battery has an output of 7.4 volts. So it hardly surprising then that a 5V USB input is not going to do much for it!

I shall have to find somewhere to explore this weekend and learn a bit more en route. Just RTFMing is no fun!

I transfer all data from PC to and from multiple devices using simple drag and drop in Basecamp.

All my waypoints and routes reside in a number of folders arranged by “trip” and data can be chosen and transferred in whatever bundle(s) I expect to use on the device in the near future.

Done in a few minutes.

Just to be clear, you put the microSD in a slot under where the battery lives, accessible through the use of a screwdriver. Once its there you can access it just like any USB drive. You can also access the Garmin built-in memory, but here you will find all sorts of stuff you may not want to mess with, and good luck finding any routes or waypoints you've loaded on the device using Basecamp. When using Basecamp (or other) copy the stuff to the microSD and import it from there

I also found the battery life was not great initially, it seems OK now.
