I could run my whole life out of an iPad or a Chromebook if it wasn't for the need to update my Nav VI with a PC of some sort. Has anyone managed to get around this problem?

My best advice is...

1. Go to a �discount store� (like WalMart) and buy an el cheapo laptop that will have internet and USB ports. Install Garmin Express and do the deed.

2. See if there�s a more public terminal (or a friend�s home) where you can plug in and let the updates install. You really don�t need to update maps more than once a year if even that.

3. Contact Garmin and see what other options might exist. I suppose you could pay to round-trip the unit to them so they update the unit and return it, but that makes option #1 sound even better.

you can get a 11" "netbook" type thing, refurbished but running Windows 10 for just over £100

As well as my Zumo 390, I have a couple of legacy programs I use which need Windows, so I always have a cheap Windows device around. Currently a 15.6" Lenovo laptop bought from Argos in their post Xmas sale. It's dog slow but does the job and can just about stream video to my TV via a Chromecast. It has a massive spinning rust hard drive which is handy as an easily accessible storage repository for all sorts of stuff before I archive the important stuff to longer term storage in "the cloud".
