I just did a quick calculation using a Kill A Watt meter when fully charging my Zero S this morning after riding 74 miles to my daughter's home and back this weekend. About 1/3 freeway travel and 2/3 surface streets. The cost, at my home's electric rate of 40 cents per KWh was 2.3 cents per mile.

That's a very high rate for electrical service. In my area, it's under 12-cents per kWHr, including all taxes and fees.

I think most motorcycle companies miss the mark with the electric products. Going crazy with gimmicks or completely missed goals.

Sure you can post a crazy spec sheet of a 200bhp equivalent electric motorcycle which will cost 40k and sell 120 bikes and be empty after 30 minutes of real world use. Or, what that Kawasaki toy seems to be a few posts ago, lean too far away in the opposite direction similar to dime-a-dozen e-bikes already on the road which are glorified electric bicycles with equivalent output of a 250cc motorcycle but without a licence, gear, actual tyres or brakes.

IMHO Electric bike should not be a hassle to charge if you have access to a garage / standard outlet overnight due to smaller batteries - or even replaceable packs akin to powertools. I don't think the young-urban crowd in congested apartments is the targeted demographic since they will most likely not have access to a garage/power and would prefer a more compact scooter/bicycle solution to take in-doors while an 'in-doors' motorcycle seems a compromise to great to actually have something usable. And their commutes are usually single-digit distances anyways.

An electric bike with minimum 100 miles of real world, actual, no matter what riding that can do 130-150kph, handle 2 people, or some panniers/boxes for work stuff and have people that ride maxi-scooters, 300-500cc ICE bikes consider changing due to savings on fuel, smaller frame, less heat etc. These are distances and options I'd consider one for daily use/commute - for enthusiasts I don't see myself touring on an electric RS1250 stopping every 1-2 hours for charging, or someone replacing their weekend B-road/Track toy 600-1000cc sports, or hard-core Harley fans or [insert manufacturer].

I know there are many different commutes but I think a large majority of people in-around cities and more dense areas will fall well under the 100 mark for their needs.
