Great news we have another year to think about how to resolve this ongoing issue. I think earlier conversations talked about raising the $ to take over the cost of keeping the forum open, luckily Holger paid the fee for us. Should we seek donations from all interested parties and try and find a way to pay Holger back for his generosity? Seems like he gets little for the site anymore. This also may open up a chance for communication on the eventual transfer of the site to someone more involved. I would be very happy to contribute, the amount I have learned from you guys and laughs I get are invaluable. |

One thing I notice is that this is the only motorcycle forum that I visit that does not have banner ads. There is one lonely electric motorcycle conversion forum that I have been visiting for years that now only gets one or two posts a week but it is still hanging on after 20+ years. It is apparently funded by both banner ads at the top and bottom of the page and also popup ads that you have to close to start a thread or respond to a post, which likely do nothing but drive away visitors and make the forum even less popular. Somewhere between the extreme of the host paying the entire cost of running a forum and one that buries you in ads there is likely a happy medium. One example that seems OK to me is the F800Riders forum. You get a banner ad at the top of the page, but it is not that irritating and seems to generate enough traffic and revenue to keep plugging along - even if BMW is no longer making the F800 series of bikes anymore.
