Looking for tips... I'm mid 50s, 84kg and 1.81m (6ft) tall, not strong but I've managed the centre-stand on my last bike, a GS, just fine. The bikes I've had with a CS have all felt a bit different in terms of technique. I find the RS impossible... balanced on two feet of stand, full weight on the peg of the centre stand, pulling a bit back on the bars and up on the grab handles. Nothing! Not even nearly . So... apart from hitting the gym (which, to be fair, I could probably do with in the arms/shoulder department)... any tips? Thanks!

Thanks all - some great tips there and definitely some I’ve not really tried before. I’ll be giving them all a good go and maybe hold off on the gym!

Good luck, I think Wessie’s advice on having the bike fully upright and a straight front wheel are the key points, I’m the same age range weight and height as the OP and also a weakling but I have no problem to get the bike on its CS. Now my old R100RS is a real struggle on and off the CS!

Here's me putting my RS on centerstand...stocking-footed. It has nothing to do with strength or size. It's technique.

I think the two main things people do that makes it more difficult is a) fail to get the bike planted on both feet and b) have the front wheel turned off centre.

I'm glad to know that it wasn't just me. I'm going to have to try some of these tips and tricks.

I know where I’m going wrong. I need to take my boots off.

I’m glad mine is real easy to pop up on the stand and I’m no giant.

By definition, the bike is upright when both stand “feet” are touching the ground.

Then weight on right foot on stand lever. No pulling up at all.

As I almost always stop in gear I’m used to pulling in the clutch when popping it on the stand.

And I’m definitely not tough enough to do it in my slippers.

Adding to @Boxerboy55, I've found that looking forward in parallel to the long axis of the bike, as opposed to across the bike also makes it easier. Never had to pull and I am not big either- I can barely flat-foot.

I was taught to use the left foot for raising a bike onto the centre stand because you will have better control if it starts to topple away from you.

Ask someone skilled to show you in real - with your bike - how to do it and you just need to practice (use your weight and brain). My wife is close to 50’s, weight 48 kilos and put her RS to center stand like a charm.
I remember, when got my first FJR years ago, I was not able to get her to center stand too…

I usually wear a shoe on my left foot. I use my stocking-clad right foot to raise my bike onto the center stand. I generally don't use my rear brake pedal, so a shoe is really not needed.
