RE: Continental Road Attack 3 - 3

I have used the original Z8 tires, a set of Bridgestone BT-023 tires and now the RS III tires. So far none of them have slid on wet streets, but then I rarely ride in the rain on purpose and ride very carefully when I do. Both the Z8 and the RS tires have provided about the same mileage, around 9K miles, while the Bridgestone tires wore out in 6K miles. The front tires of all the brands wore out about 1K miles before the rear tire.

My problem with riding in the rain is that where I live the roads are completely congested with automobiles and trucks most of the time that have drivers who don't know how to drive in the rain and all going way too fast for the conditions, resulting in crashes ever few minutes in the greater SF Bay Area. And when they do they tend to take out other vehicles around them. I don't want to be one of those that get flattened. So I do my best to find roads that don't go to wherever the herd is going. Freeway motorcycle crashes on weekdays start at around 4am and continue every 30 minutes until the commute ends at around 8pm. It is a mystery to me that the supply of motorcycle commuters appears to be unlimited.

DJBee out of interest what mode did you have the bike in Dynamic, Road, Rain, User when experiencing the Dunlop letting go "to some extent" in the wet weather? I was thinking about the Dunlops but decided to stick to what I knew, Michelin PR4s, which whilst I can get it let go in the wet is only when I want it to, or rather never unexpectedly, unless when crossing the low traction items (white line, drain covers, gravel etc.) My tyre life is low as I do love to use the torque of the RS - last rear PR4 lasted 4300 miles and never had the pannier/luggage or pillion during the period, and this is the first time the I've changed the rear on its own, up until now front and rear wore out together (front still has 1,000 ~ 1500 miles left) - dam that Hilltop tune

I had the bike in Road for the suspenders and Dynamic for the engine mapping. On reflection, it might have been better to switch to Road or even Rain but as the rain was intermittent, I would have been switching back and forth. To be honest, I usually just set the thing up and leave it alone, forgetting that it has all the fancy modes! The point is that I have been similarly neglectful of switching modes in the past on this bike but have not had other tyres letting go the way the Dunlops did. Not too serious but perhaps a warning to be more gentle with the right hand in the rain as well as trying to experiment with different modes.

Personnaly, I think that a high torque at low RPM bike as the RS will always need a cautious right hand on a wet road.

Begging your pardon, I will change the subject and give an update, as promised, on my Continental Road Attack 3 Tires, now at 8,300 miles.

Compared to new, the handling is a little stubborn until the tires warm up. Once up to temperature and pressure, they still have the light, neutral feel I reported last year. I have no complaints about the handling for the time being. Still no obvious cupping of the front tread, and plenty of tread left all around. In comparison, the original Michelin PR4s were a mess at 8K miles.

we have had Road Attacks on an F800S - lighter bike i know - and they have performed well
