we have farmers queuing up to build solar arrays but there is no investment in the infrastructure to plug them into the grid. Then there are the NIMBYs (not in my back yard) who recently turned down a solar array near a decommissioned nuclear power station, somewhere where there is the infrastructure to plug into the grid. No joined up thinking in this land.

As for E-drive, mild hybrids are the new performance engines and PHEVs cost the same pure ICE variants. So, even the car and truck companies understand, E-drive best handles part load operation.

In my opinion, the biggest challenge facing EVs or PHEVs are the annual fees imposed by several states which make the vehicles non-economically viable for owners who drive less than 10,000 miles per year. Since the politicians are either too stupid or lazy to do math, my future vehicles will likely be Toyota/Lexus hybrids to get the lowest fuel & tax cost per mile.

the biggest challenge for the majority of UK drivers is no access to a domestic charging point as they live in a tower block or medieval street with no way to deliver power as they park nowhere near their property threshold. EVs are great in theory for those living in suburbia with off road parking

I wasn't aware NYC legalized lane splitting. As for the shape, reminds me of the robot Halloween costume a neighbor kid made from Amazon boxes.

It seems like the solid state batteries, still in development, could possibly a gamechanger for the whole industry.

Soliod state batteries despite having millions invested into their development are still 5 years away like they have been for the last 20 years. I will be very happy when they finally get here but I may not be still driving when they do.

Here is information regarding the new Royal Enfield electric motorcycle prototype. I wonder if it is going to sell in the Indian market, considering its likely premium price. But it might make inroads in the EU.

Royal Enfield has officially taken the wraps off the Himalayan Electric Concept at the EICMA 2023 alongside the Himalayan 452.
While specs and details of the electric motorcycle haven’t been disclosed, the reveal showed the e-Himalayan concept being ridden somewhere in the mountains, off the road and even on it. But more importantly, it showcased the design, or rather what we can expect from the production model.
Unsurprisingly, the Royal Enfield Electric Himalayan concept borrows heavily from the new Himalayan 452 and comes with sleek styling. It gets a circular, full-LED headlamp with a large windscreen and an interesting-looking tank that flows directly into a single-piece seat. Underneath, it houses the tightly packed electric motor. The concept also comes fitted with chunky upside-down forks at the front and what looks like an adjustable rear shock.
Royal Enfield has also revealed that the real-world testing as well as wind tunnel testing for the Himalayan Electric has been in the process for a few years now but we can only expect the motorcycle to debut in production form by 2025.

There was a short article in my newspaper today regarding an electric motorcycle that caught on fire while being charged in a garage. The home is located in the City of Pacifica, CA, in my subdivision, about 1.5 miles away from me. The fire department arrived and put out the fire after the owners of the home escaped into the street. The fire caused fire and smoke damage to the inside of the garage and smoke damage to the second story of the home. The fire has displaced the residents who have made temporary living arrangements elsewhere. The fire department said that the cause of the blaze was "an electrical malfunction within a charging motorcycle" and was determined to be accidental. The article did not mention which brand of electric motorcycle caught fire.
