We had a party line when I was a kid at DC.
Here's the phone from my Grandparents in New Hampshire or Nebraska. I don't remember which one.

I do remember the only plumbing at my Grandparents in Nebraska was a hand pump in the kitchen.

When I took a computer programming course in college, we had to program the IBM 390 (as I recall) mainframe with punch cards. The computer took up a large section of the small lecture hall and the punch card equipment took up another large area in the pit. The program used FORTRAN and I can't recall how the results were displayed. But I do know that I never got the right results because I could never punch all of the cards without making at least one mistake.

What was it printed on? Line Printer Paper!!!

I can't recall how the results were printed out. It could have been via card stock or the printout paper shown above. That was 61 years ago and my memory just isn't up to the task of recalling that information.

San Francisco just has adopted new lithium battery charging rules. However, they are limited to charging in apartments and batteries for small devices and personal mobility vehicles. Here is a link to the news story. Of course, how they would be enforced is not discussed. My local radio news station this morning reported that the Marin County (one of the wealthiest areas in California) police are complaining that parents are buying their children and teenagers "electric motorcycles" instead of bicycles. The children then go zipping around at 30 to 40 mph terrorizing neighborhoods and hiking trails. Needless to say, they don't have a license to ride them because they are not old enough. The cops are begging the county's parents to not buy these vehicles for their kids as they are dangerous and the kids don't have the skills or knowledge to ride them in traffic. (I guess they are making this request because enforcement to control this activity is too difficult for the cops and they don't want to try chasing the kids around neighborhood streets, bike paths and off-road trails.)

My neighbor bought one of these Class 3+ electric bicycles for his pre-teen boy. That thing really zips along and will pull up the hill in front of my home at 35 mph while carrying a passenger. (My Aniioki ebike chugs up the hill at only 8 mph, but it is much heavier.)

These types of electric bikes and scooters are illegal here in UK. Not illegal to buy, but there's nowhere you can legally ride them apart from on private land with the owners permission - the same as unregistered motorbikes.
That doesn't stop some of our local authorities from setting up trial schemes where the things are available to hire, usually through an app, for use around cities and towns. This eases traffic problems (which are widespread and largely on-solvable) but probably feeds into public perceptions about the legality of these things.
We are waiting for our legislative bodies to catch up with changes in the technology. Good luck with that when they are only interested in banging on about asylum seekers, making their already rich friends richer and lining their own pockets.
