I'm seeing that gray color (or variations on it) on a lot of new cars these days. It's quite unattractive, yet people are buying them. Perhaps it's catering to the color-blind crowd? As in, "See whatever color you want with our new vision bias-free gray!"

In 2015 I walked in to the biggest motor show I’ve ever attended. Frankfurt, Germany.

I thought both Porsche and Audi were having a bit of fun - ‘cos it certainly looked like a joke to see many Porsche and Audi cars on display wearing the (now popular) Primer Grey finish.

I reckoned someone in the paint shop probably joked with his colleagues one day and suggested simply adding lacquer to a primed body. “Yeah, let’s do it Fritz”.

Some nutter must have signed off on the new trend.

A true case of the Emperor’s Clothes.

It’s a modern colour, (not black, blue or white ideally non metallic so you can touch it up with a rattle can or brush) so I wouldn’t expect many people here to like it. If the turquoise isn’t available I’ll get the grey to match my wife’s car!

I live in a area that gets a lot of coastal fog during the summer and radiation (tulle) fog in the winter. Just the color for blending into the clouds so that you will be invisible to both drivers and Teslas.

I see that whenever we have fog around here. People driving around in white/light colored cars in the fog without lights. Great idea!

Grey, Primer, undercoat... When I worked at a motor repair shop in the 80's, we sprayed all of the rewound/rebuilt motors with "Machine Gray", which looked the same as these newer cars/bikes. I guess we were ahead of our time, lol.

Agreed, luckily most modern cars have fog lights, front and rear. Technology is a wonderful thing.
