I've just received my notification of "maintenance plan change" today. I note that it has two separate entries for "Check Cardan shaft" and "Lubricate Cardan shaft" on identical schedules; ie every 12,000 miles.
KC100->CB100N->CB250RS--------->DL650AL2->R1200RS->R1250RS

I assume each task has a separate service code with a standardised workshop time for each so that a customer can request just the inspection. The first inspection is being funded by BMW but I suspect future checks will be charged to the customer. After the first one to drill the hole, the inspection is a quick job with a borescope. Lubing the splines involves dismantling stuff to presumably takes longer.

Just to repeat my earlier advice - get the splines greased at the first recall check - My 2017 RS @ 16k miles 'passed' the first rpm test when the rubber grommit was fitted. |

I'm booked in for Friday at Bowker's in Preston. The only issue is that I've already changed the shaft with a much newer one a few thousand miles ago (I'm now at 44.000 miles). The recall specifically states shaft miles and not bike miles. I'll take in my older shaft that has well over 60,000 kilometres on it and ask that they return that one while I keep the newer one as a spare. |
