BMW has been replacing a lot of driveshafts during the recall because of rusting u joints (at least in the US). I've seen several reports of u joint failures in Wetheads with 80,000 to 100,000 miles. With the drop in the price for driveshafts some people have purchased a spare driveshaft and plan to replace theirs before 80,000 miles. Grumpy Goat bought a driveshaft. Seems like the price was less than $250. Lee |

I bought a 2nd hand low mileage spindle and all is good now. A pressure washer never gets near my bike. I popped a very low mileage 2nd hand shaft in my bike at 41,500 miles. It's the original, more expensive shaft (they have a different part number). All is good with less vibration too. |

He mentioned that his 1200 is booked in for the shaft modification so I called the dealer and mine will be done when in for service in February if not before.

Another video on drive shaft replacement. Long winded but easy to follow, didn't see him fully force home the front joint home. I believe there is a circlip which is compressed and then locates when fully located holding it in place. |
