I had my new (to me) R1250RS dealer-serviced (ie including an oil change) at 5,000 miles just over a month ago, and checking the oil today I find the level is right down at minimum. Assuming it was at maximum after the service (have to admit I didn't actually check) that represents a usage of 800 mL over 3,300 miles (it was a fun month!)

Is this normal? I ask because my R1200RS never consumed a drop of oil between services, over 27,000 miles, and I'm just beginning to wonder whether I've dropped a clanger in changing bikes...

I have never topped up between services.

My early 2015-build RS doesn't use a drop between oil changes.

This isn't helping, though...

For me - see below - I was expecting 3-5k miles of high oil use and once run-in/bedded in the engine would be as good as all other bmw bikes I'd owned.
I found both the 2015 and 2017 to use very little oil from new, 600 miles service - no top-up required.
Most use was days out, no town, congestion, commuting use if that makes a difference?
On longer holiday trips I would take 100/200cc of oil with me but never needed more than 100cc over 4000miles to keep at max level.
Certainly not needed any additional between services now and I just check the level at fuel stop, bike on mainstand, oil warm and easier than home checks.

Earlier R1200, 2005 oil cooled and it used about 1 litre per thousand miles until around 5k and then .... nothing.
Engine bedded in, as I was advised to expect high oil use running in but was was minimal from then.
Same procedure with 2007 R1200S and 2013 R1200R on the same oil cooled engines, pre water assisted cooling.

I did note that since the same main dealership does my servicing it was not unusual to get home and find the oil not at the maximum I was expecting.
The book quotes 4litre/3.5 without oil filter BUT i have found this can add too much - more like 3.8litre for oil with a filter change at home.
I have measured what I drain out and it is less than 4 litre, even if I attempt to clear the filter
I have seen less than 4 litre on a service charge so perhaps the quoted amount is for a dry engine, without a check after your service it is hard to judge.

I have a 2018 with 19,000 miles on it. I've never used any oil between services, in spite of seeing a gray cloud from the muffler on start up when the bike sits for extended periods of time. Something like 3 weeks or more. I know, not helping.

I measure the output when changing oil. I put in 4 quarts. I get about 3.5, but you have to account for the amount retained in the filer element.

Change the oil. Keep an eye on it. Next change, see how much you get out presuming it never dips below the minimum level in the sight glass.

2019 R1250RS - Oil use - none (as far as I can tell). Maybe that will help a little.
With out knowing what the reading was after the service you are, frankly, just pissing in the wind!

"Assuming it was at maximum..." I think this is the key statement here. Top it off and keep monitoring it until your next oil change. I would bet you're not burning any at all.

Freddy, I can understand your concern and yet there is a big unknown on whether the service tech had filled the oil to max or perhaps even min level. I’d discuss with the dealer, let them know and see whether they want to take a look at it, or whether you should just top up and monitor. Either way, early notice to the dealer must be in your best interest just in case there’s an issue.
