RE: It lives and breathes - 3

Managed to get out yesterday! Let me dedicate the 400 miles I managed to squeeze in before sunset to all of you who can't get out yet for one reason or another.

up to 36'F when I left, I still kinda expected to freeze my nuts off. Was rather pleasantly surprised by the wind protection. Some definite improvement via newly fitted Givi screen, both for my torso, head and - biggest surprise - hands! I was also relieved my heated gear worked (just installed). Only saw one bit of ice from a driveway run off that was thankfully visible early and just before a turn. I chose to stay east of the mountains to keep the temps up, seeing 51' briefly, but spent most they day in sunny 40's. Overall, a lovely ride exploring some new/forgotten roads. Bike and I both needed the fresh air.

Weather forecast for my little part of the world calls for sunshine and temps in the 70s F (>21 C) this week. I rode to work this morning, and intend to ride the rest of the week. I'm riding for all those that can't. I hope all y'all are able to get your two-wheeled therapy sessions in soon.

Like sanemancured I ride all year for pleasure apart from when there is ice or snow. Some of my best rides have been touring Wales in the winter-deserted roads so you often have the place to yourself with cheap accommodation. With modern clothing you handle most temperatures in the UK and laminated suits keep you warm and dry. The down side in winter is the bike will be covered in mud and may suffer some corrosion but that is a small price to pay. Try riding in winter, you may like me and others enjoy it.

That is one thing you literally don´t have to worry about here. Maybe in other parts of Spain where they get more extreme weather, more rain more snow, more cold , it would bee something to worry about. We might get about 40 days of rain per year, on a bad year. Temperature wise you´d be unlucky to go below 8 celsius and generally you´re looking at 13-16 degrees during the day even in winter, and that would be coldish here.

Last weekend we did a 500kms round trip from here to Nerja which( would be a 260km round trip in a straight line). The roads here are insane, so much mountain roads with thousands of curves, it´s hard to get bored.

I have a friend living near Fuente de Piedra near the flamingo lake. He has a Honda Blackbird which does not move for 3 months of the year as he says it is far too hot there to enjoy a ride. I can only agree, having ridden in 43C in parts of Iberia in late September and the heatwave in France in 2019 that also peaked at 43C.

109F is the norm for 3 months here in the valley of the sun, Arizona USA. Some mornings, it's not gotten below 99F to start the day and can climb to 113-115F as a high. I wear my heat out vest, soaking it ever 1.5 hours or so and a mesh armored jacket. Coming back through SLC Utah from Alaska, the heat out vest soaked every 90 minutes or so was the only way I could have ridden during the day and I am reluctant to ride at night just to make the miles each day.

In the last year, I've come to taking two 24 oz. insulated water bottles and drink a lot more water than I used to in those conditions. More breaks, soak the heat out, gas and go seems to work for all day in the heat for me. No way I'm putting the bike up for 3 months in the summer, I prefer the heat to the cold at close to 70 trip around the sun.

My motor is on a batt tender when it's in the garage. Even if I'm riding it the next day. On an extended trip [3 weeks ], it's never failed to turn the motor over with a weak batt.
