It�ll be at least another month before I try to make mine Live and Breathe!

Last ride 15 October. Was a 361 mile jolly though

Bloody COVID-19 rules..........

My May hotels are all cancelled, though the non-refundable one has been moved back to September. What chance I�ll get on a ferry then?

Not to rub you guys faces in it(too much anyway), but living in such a great climate as the south of Spain, there is no "winter" as such and one can ride all year round.

It must be so hard to have to lock up your bike for 3-4 months of the year

Here in the UK we don't have to. COVID excepted of course. I rode the RS through Winter the past few years because of the odd advanced test that needed conducting but it was a time consuming battle against corrosion caused by the road salt/rain solution and however much the effort was worth it it still caused corrosion on some parts even with the ACF50 treatment and topping up regularly.

I've retired. Life and income has changed. I'm not realistically going to be splashing out on a new bike. The RS is as good now as it ever was so looking after it becomes more of a priority.

It's true we can ride all year round, but for the three months that equate to winter it really is not that pleasant. Think cold or rainy and often dark. Maybe you could get in one or two days when it is unexpectedly sunny and the roads are relatively clean, if you grab those opportunities.

Like sanemancured I ride all year for pleasure apart from when there is ice or snow. Some of my best rides have been touring Wales in the winter-deserted roads so you often have the place to yourself with cheap accommodation. With modern clothing you handle most temperatures in the UK and laminated suits keep you warm and dry. The down side in winter is the bike will be covered in mud and may suffer some corrosion but that is a small price to pay. Try riding in winter, you may like me and others enjoy it.

Last weekend we did a 500kms round trip from here to Nerja which( would be a 260km round trip in a straight line). The roads here are insane, so much mountain roads with thousands of curves, it´s hard to get bored.

That´s insanely coincidental! I was at Fuente Piedra last weekend on the way home, we went to see the flamingos!

Yes I do agree about the heat in the summer, and you maybe have hit the nail on the head! Winter if great, but summer is horrendous in July and August. I don´t lock her up , but I don´t do many long rides either.

Last year we went to El Chorro ( a huge reservoir) and it was a 40 degree day. Before leaving I literally dunked all my clothes in the lake,and I mean under the water, totally soaking and dripping, before putting them back on and driving home. I was still dry when I got home, such was the heat.

I was also in France during the August 2019 heatwave.. it was unbearable. Same goes for 40+C riding in Italy the year before.

Of course this is partly down to the gear I choose to wear whilst riding. I guess if you're happy to ride wearing only shorts and flip flops, and don't mind sunburn, it's less unpleasant!

I completely agree. Save for the last 11 months I have commuted summer and winter by bike (sometimes on snow though by accident not design!). For the past 10 years plus I have had a gentleman's express to ride for leisure and something else to pile on the commuting miles and cope with the winter salt. Hitherto November-March I have not ventured out for winter touring weekends just occasional days but, given, that by next winter I am only likely to be spending 50% of my time in the office and thus doing less commuting I shall want to explore that option for the future.

Looks to be a good place to visit when I head back that way. I used Alozaina on the edge of the Sierrra de las Nieves as a base for a week's touring and I very much want to go back - Such good roads!

My take on this is that I can ride locally for recreation and I no longer need to be on my way to or from a supermarket food shopping as has often been my weekend routine since Christmas.

Were I to repeat my Boxing Day trip of a couple of years ago threading my way on back roads around the A6 (with a couple of mates) up to Carlisle before returning at dusk down the M6 I would expect to get a fine if stopped.

As to how local? That is anybody's guess. Most of us know good local roads that you head for to test out mods you have made or when short of leisure time but wanting a "fix". In my case I can head for Rivington and then take an extended run across the tops staying on backroads within the boundaries of Bolton. That is my plan for next weekend. Meanwhile today I shall go "shopping"!

I know I'm rubbing it in, but in my part of the world we are able to ride all year round. No salt on the roads. Great roads and mountain passes with minimal interference from the law who are never there when needed anyway. About as close to motorcycle nirvana as you get I would think. The downside is that we have the worst idiot drivers you could imagine, and really bad politics I'm not understating the bad politics. I guess it's never perfect anywhere.
