Off in a week on a bike tour with 5 mates...
2x matching VTR1000 SP1's 1x KTM1290 SuperDuke GT and 1x Ducati Multistrada 900s a lovely 1x low miles BMW R1100S plus my Stealth Black R1200RS

Praying for fast roads, good food and nice weather... pictures and on bike GoPro vids as and when I have time... First stop in Biarritz ...then no idea what routes we will take... going with the flow...and noise of a pair of baffle-less SP1's !

That sounds good, wishes safe and exciting journey.

Personally, I liked the roads on the Spanish side best, surface is 95% super. In the vicinity of Andorra especially recommended is the road from Coll de Nargó to Isona, about 40km curve to curve, good road, little traffic!

That sounds awesome. You clearly have the best bike for the job; just don't mention that to your mates!!

And try and stay in front of the SP1s for the sake of your hearing; being behind an obnoxiously loud bike for even a short time can be headache inducing...

Got Back yesterday....Fantastic weather with only one day of rain throughout the entire trip.... spent a lot of time on the Spanish side of the Pyrenees.
Also did a little go-carting in a place just outside Andorra.. 2 stroke 36hp disc brakes... x5 of us... excellent fun!! took lots of GoPro footage... here are some pics to whet your appetite...

Whilst on my recent trip to the Pyrenees, I was carrying 50L of tail Luggage, and 224lbs (16st) of me plus whatever my leathers and helmet weigh... , ESA set to Road - 1 rider- plus luggage- pre-load setting.

Leaning over at a rather enthusiastic velocity around a long fast sweeping right hand bend .. I encountered a deep undulation... which was enough to cause the suspension to dip heavily and at the bottom of the bump stretch the side-stand retaining spring enough for it to travel down as well and touch down.!
You can see/hear this at ' 00.46sec ' in the video (Full Vid 12mins long)

It shocked me momentarily... and I had a little word with myself .... this has never happened before....

After this when we stopped for coffee ... my preload setting went to 2 up and full dynamic ESA... effectively jacking the rear up a little.

I'm a little confused as it was a right-hander, but the side stand is on the left? [In my defence, I haven't studied the position of the side-stand retaining spring...]

I've experienced exactly the same in Corsica, but I'm fairly certain it was the centre-stand touching down, which, as you say, can be cured by jacking up and stiffening the suspension.

This was worse on the older R1100S My mate was riding.... so much so he removed the stand completely and put it in his luggage!

I've had the same thing happen a few times on my '16. 2 helmets on the preload takes care of that
