RE: Lawn mower shopping - 2

As lawn mowers don’t come out with “model year” versions, they can stick with a design for several years and not worry about not moving warehouse stock. I got my Cub Cadet with a small discount, but I had to hunt like crazy for it.

I think other motorcycle manufacturers are going like BMW…making a limited number of bikes each year so there isn’t surplus inventory sitting in warehouses.

BMW doesn't have a problem increasing sales in other countries. Unlike the European market, BMW didn't increase sales in the US during 2023.

their margins are better this side of the Atlantic with demand exceeding supply on some models so it does not make sense to try to expand US sales in the high end bikes. You can gave as many of the G & F series as you like...

what about other makes? Are they selling?

we have a surfeit of mid price bikes from all makers so it seems that have all worked out that people may not have the disposable income to buy a 20 grand bike but still want something new & shiny. The bike buying demographic (excluding scooters) is my age or older. Many are now working part time or like me, living off a pension pot and savings. Many don't want a 5 year finance deal but would trade in a heavy BMW plus a bit of cash for a 200kg Honda Hornet or Suzuki GSX-8S.

are you getting these modular bikes based on parallel twin engines? They seem to be getting traction here.

I have a local "new" dealer with 91 new units in stock. Several (about 25) R1250 and 1300 GSs, plus 3 1250RTs. The next closest dealer has been in business since the 60s and lists 44 units in stock, 1 RT and about 6 GSs, but no R1300s. Based on experience, the long time dealer doesn't list all of his inventory and has offered dealer discounts on when BMW offers manufacturer discounts.

Those 1300GS in stock might also be sold but cannot be handed over due to a parts shortage on replacements for the self immolating starter relay.

April for us.
It was warm enough yesterday that I checked the valves and changed plugs on both bikes yesterday.
When it's a little warmer I'll change the air filters.
