I'm in the midwest US and ordered a new RS last night. Showed the dealer the linked article, and messages on the XR forum about dealers refunding deposits. My dealer said they haven't heard anything about a shutdown, and then texted a regional rep who repeated the same. They said my RS should arrive in 2-3 months. If I had ordered a K1600 or S1000XR it'd be a different story as those bikes aren't big sellers, and that even though the RS is sort of a black sheep in the Motorrad stable it's still more popular than the XR -- so when constrained the lowest-selling bikes get held back. For the K1600 they can't get engines right now and I don't know if you can even pre-order them.

The XR is a huge seller in Europe and you will see more around on the roads, especially in the UK & France. The only market where the RS could be described as a strong seller is Germany. Hopefully your bike turns up before the end of June but take what the dealer is saying with a huge dose of salt

BMW really shot themselves in the foot when they designed and marketed the R18 models. I bet that is the last time they design a cruiser boxer for a very long time.
