Daylight Savings Time in the U.S. might be made permanent all year long

It looks like Daylight Savings Time will likely be made permanent in the entire U.S. next year. The bill was unanimously passed by the U.S. Senate today and will be sent to the House of Representatives later this year. God, I hope so, but let's face it...we're asking politicians to do smart things. It's usually above their pay grade, so I won't hold my breath.

Personally, I would be happier to have Standard Time all year long as I am a morning person and get up every day at 5am. I like to go for motorcycle rides during the morning when traffic is lighter. But that is just me and likely most people would not agree with me.

That’s my mom’s position. She hates how late it’s light out now. Imagine what it will be like by the solstice.

Pitch black for the morning winter commute, that's all I remember from our last attempt at this idea (1974 or 1975).

I wish I wasn't so insensitive to sensitive people.............

Standard time would be best. The whole thing of Daylight Savings Time might have made some sense when there were a lot of farmers in the US, but now everyone's idea of farming is a factory turning out processed food.

So…smart enough to adopt the metric system but dumb enough to stay with daylight savings time? Do any other nations other than the USA still have this messed up system?

These days most folks start work at 8A and end around 5P. Without DST, sunrise and sunset will be at 4:40A and 7:45P in my area.

To me, that sounds like ......... 3 plus hours of wasted sunlight in the morning and only 2~2.5 hrs of sunlight after work. Not a great trade, in my opinion.
