And you know who I am talking about. The Government, of course. This morning President Biden announced that he would be loosening environmental regulations to permit more ethanol to be blended into gasoline this summer. While it will increase smog during summer heat, he believes that it might decrease the price of gasoline by as much as 10 cents a gallon - just in time for the summer election season, of course.

I don't think this is going to help the current U.S. inflation rate of 8.5% much, which was also announced this morning.

Needless to say, what wasn't mentioned is that corn will be come more expensive and more scarce just as wheat supplies dwindle around the world due to the war in Ukraine. There are a lot of people around the world who would rather eat corn than drive a vehicle that they don't even own.

Personally, I don't think saving 10 cents a gallon on the price of gasoline (if that even happens) is worth increasing the number of starving people around the world. Plus, I doubt that anyone who rides a motorcycle, floats a boat, or mows their lawn is going to be very happy about having more ethanol in their fuel this year. Just my opinion, of course. You might feel differently - but I doubt it.

Factor in the lower MPG of ethanol-mixed fuels and you really aren't saving all that much. Just as some states are suspending gas taxes....STUPID. They will later complain they have no funds for needed highway projects.

There are a couple gas stations around me that sell pure gas with no ethanol. You pay more for it but the bike runs better on it and you get better mileage. The owners manual for the 1200 says 10% ethanol max. I'm not a mechanic but I have to think the extra 5% ethanol isn't going to be good for the long term health of my engine. Here's another example of the government trying to help and doing more harm than good. I sure hope they're required to post warnings about the ethanol content. Right now most pumps in my area have signs saying "up to X%".

Ethanol is currently $2.20~2.30 per gallon and has 70% of the heat energy of pure gas. So, on an equivalent heat energy basis, the cost of Ethanol is 3.14 to 3.29 per gallon.

What are you paying for gasoline? My local stations are asking $4.15 to $4.25 for 87AKI E10

in the Uk one of the bike magazines got 2 identical bikes and filled one with 5% ethanol and the other with our new 10% ethanol petrol. They then rode them till they run out and although there was much in it paying the extra for the 5% petrol was cheaper due to the extra miles you could cover.

in the UK, our government has reduced tax on fuel by 5p a litre, so should be 6p a litre when you take into account the VAT. The AA & RAC have calculated that most of that reduction has gone into the pockets of those in the supply chain, not the end consumer.

Does Biden think your fuel supply chain will pass on any production savings to the consumer?

I believe Honda, at least for their cars, specifically says E15 will void your warranty.

Only 2% of the fuel stations in the US have E15 pumps and most of those are in the midwest. There is always a pump at a station with E15 that has another blend of 87 or 91. Want 89 put half of each in the tank and go ride. Worry less, ride more.

I checked and it is only sold at 2300 stations in the US. I’ll have to look up the Sheetz convenience store chain and see if I can determine where their supply comes from.
