New Member Introductions » From VFR to R1250RS

Hi all,

First thanks for your help in my purchase! Lots of info here.

I'm trading in a 2015 VFR800F for the 2021 R1250RS Exclusive.

Before then I had a Triumph Sprint GT.

Impressions from the test ride.
- Windscreen. Drop it to the lowest level and throw the air under the helmet for a clean stream of air. Good for ventilation and a struggle if you want to ride in a bubble of still air. It takes massive screens to see through rather than over. May as well get a car for that.

Suspension. Love ESA. In twisty stuff it started to pogo in road mode. Switch to dynamic and it all settled down. Huge happiness to have the sport/comfort versatility.

Quickshift. Open throttle and used as intended, great in all gears. On down shifts, shift late and slow speed into 1st and 2nd and it's perfect.

Connectivity. Maps was awesome. It took me on a winding road, but all sealed. Great. Music however kept scratching in and out. Cardo Packtalk bold with Samsung Galaxy S20 using TFT as hub.

Engine. Strong. Compared to a 4 cylinder it's happy at 2000 rpm. Insane.

Thought I'd add some perspective. I'm a person who wants a sport bike that can be ridden all day and taken on multi day trips. This is definitely the right tool for it.

Welcome aboard. I'm sure you'll be pleased with the RS. I traded my 2014 800 Interceptor on it and have never looked back. Prior to that I had a 2007 anniversary edition 800 Interceptor, a 1994 VFR750, a 1993 VFR750, and a 1985 VFR500. Loved them all but I was a much younger man. The more upright RS suites me much better now.

Enjoy your new bike, similar here but vfr750 (still have it) to a RT to the r1250rs exclusive, I have still not solved the windscreen, going to try a vario next, apart from that, it’s an absolutely fantastic all rounder, need to get some panniers next year.

Looks like many old VFR owners! Me too and I find them oddly similar to the RS. Comfortable enough to be on all day but fun enough to never be bored. IMO 1250 engine has similarly linear pull to VFR. Just more pull, which I enjoy. Grin

Welcome Scott ! Amazing but not completely surprising that so many viffer riders have picked up on the RS.. Mine is a '17 R1200RS and i love it.. I loved (still do) my 6th gen vfr with 45000 miles on it and i would not hesitate to head out on a long trip on it tomorrow, it has been a great bike in so many ways. it is just too bad big-red hasnt answered the call with a thoroughly modern viffer..

But the BMW is so much more refined in so many ways, what a great bike! As Im sure you and others do, I look forward to lotsa fun miles on mine for sure..

In a lot of ways my 2014 Interceptor was a favorite. Like the prior generation you could get factory bags. They were a bit small but matched the pearl white paint beautifully. I know a lot of people didn't really care for the VTEC engine. I also preferred the whine of the gear driven cams. My wife always said it was so distinct she could tell by the sound when I'd turned onto our street to come home. What I really liked about the 2014 was Honda finally listened to the riders, snitched a few horse power off the top and put it down in the mid-range where I believe most of us ride. If it weren't for the reach to the bars and the cramped leg position I'd still have it. Oddly, I never noticed the cramped legs until I got my RS. My body was really growing to dislike the reach to the bars, even with risers installed.

Welcome to the RS world. I am on my second RS, I had a '16 R1200 RS and now have a '20 R1250 RS. I think the 1250 shift cam engine is a definite improvement to the 1200. I am also a previous VFR owner, I had an '08 VFR800. My current R1250 RS is the best bike I've. ever had, my previous one is the second best bike I've ever had.

I still have my '05 VFR in the garage but a 2022 RS is on its way, ETA ~Feb/March.
I only got to take a quick ride on a used '20 RS but loved it right away, had a 1 hour test ride on the R1250R as well.
In my head I think of it as a logical progression from the VFR as I start to value comfort more.
I have had Boxers before and loved the engines but this newest generation blew me away.

I had 1997 and 2001 Viffers.

VFR800 to R12R to R12RS....never looked back. Loved the VFR but went through a few stators, no issues with the RS.
