I had a VFR 750fm then a 2001 VFR800 Fi1 (last of the Non-V-tec models) before I got my 1200RS and apart from from the usual reg/rec issues they served me well. |

I bought a 1986 VFR700FII (engine no. 99) when they first came out. I put 48K miles on the bike and then gave it to my daughter as a college graduation present in 1991. Her husband is now riding the bike which has 125K miles on the clock. The engine still runs like a clock, although things like electrics have been a little dodgy. The two worst things about that model VFR was its 16" front wheel (18" rear) and a shock absorber that used the same damping valve for both compression and rebound. The shock was replaced with an Ohlins unit which is still on the bike and has never been serviced. The attached photo shows my daughter with the VFR from about 25 years ago. My old 1991 BMW K100RS is in the background to the right. Thanks for your input on the RS, I too have owned the VFR, (two of the 800's - not a fan of the V-Tech), and am looking for a sport touring bike leaning more towards sport. Been researching the RS and it's my number 1 choice at this point. Enjoy your new RS, going to be scheduling a demo soon and will post my impressions. |
