RE: TFT thefts (GS) - 2

When I had a 1050 Tiger I posted on another forum about my rev counter playing up and the the cost of a replacement was in access of £800. Another member replied saying he returned to his Tiger after leaving it parked up in a secure car park for a few day to find his complete instrument panel had been stolen.
So this isn't a new thing, but still a complete pain in the arse. Bastard little scrotes😠😠😠

Not sure why this is even on here. On a GS you can see and get access to the TF whereas on the RS it is buried into the fairing dash panel.

Simplest solutions are probably the best. I have an Abus Granite U lock that I carry when touring and the like. I may just make the effort to stuff my light weight cover somewhere on the bike as well (if necessary under a cargo net on the topbox). With the cover locked on it will not be obvious that it is a 19 plate BMW. That may avoid unwelcome attention. Hope I don't end up eating my words!

More news on TFT thefts, with F900XR's being targeted as well as the GS, in this months BMW Club magazine.
It would appear that the R and RS may be vulnerable as an anti-theft device is on the way for all three models.
BMW need to look closely at a factory fix rather than a horrible looking after market retro-fit.

I would love to go to my dealer if I could, and have a chat or a coffee, unfortunately we are in lockdown with this fake virus which is killing lots of fake people who if they were still alive would be going out and stealing fake TFT's.

Something like that made from Kevlar or with a wire mesh lining with provision for a padlock would go down a treat. Fugly where are you?!!

Motorcycles, by their very nature are vulnerable to theft. Accessories usually have some locking feature, as in the Nav mount and luggage. It is hoped that the manufacturer endeavours to make other fixtures as secure as possible, although anything can be removed with time and the right tools.
Car manufacturers have this down to a tee with clever production techniques.
If there is a weakness in the TFT mount, however few the theft cases might be, I would hope that BMW might look at a design change or retro-fit fix.
The GS is their biggest seller and does not need adverse publicity.
