Without the benefit of pictures its hard to determine anything... however I would tentatively suggest that an impact large enough to break the rear wheel...(and the front) would exert such force through the spinning brake disc... which would no doubt at the time be rotating within the confines of the brake caliper, and being pressed by the pads assuming the brakes were also being applied, to cause the lateral forces from the wheel (to which the brake disc is attached), and it would follow to exert such extreme 'shear force' on the mounting point of the bracket, so as to shear the caliper off the mount.. |

No, the mount points are not designed to be used by a hugger; but they are the mount points that hold the rear caliper onto the swing arm/final drive casing. That should be plenty strong enough to hold a flimsy bit of plastic as well... I don't think the hugger is the root cause of your woes. Cheers Paul B. |

The armature that holds the hugger is metal, not plastic. When the tire hit the hugger, it also hit the armature mounting it...which transmits into the mounting bolts.

I'm still not sure we are even speaking the same language; the problem IMHO is what was on your seat since the curb shouldn't have appeared unexpectedly or have moved into your path! Oh...I admit that I screwed up badly, BUT I would have less in damage had I realized the risk to the swingarm the hugger posed and removed it.
