With previous R1200R and K1200GT bikes, I've had tires last 3000-5000 miles depending upon road surface quality and how aggressive I ride. I rode the Blue Ridge Parkway weekly for many years and while the road surface was in great shape (479 miles with no red lights or stop signs), it would eat through a set of tires very quickly. Now I'm enjoying my RS in northern California where the roads can also be a bit rough. I have 4800 miles on my stock tires and they still appear to have more life in them.

What has been your experience in tire wear with the RS? Thanks for sharing.

Changed annually. Around 6,000 miles.

Could last a bit longer, but I choose a time to suit me so that I start my longest trip on nearly new tyres.

The original PR4's were gone just after 6000 miles. A set of Dunlop Roadsmart 3 went the same mileage and looked like they'd do another 1000 when I took them off. I now have Michelin Road 5 on for around 1000 miles, too soon to know how long they'll go. This is on my '17. The '16 averaged about the same mileage through several sets of Michelins and Metzelers.

Got 8500 miles out of the original Metzeler, (borderline stupid as they where toast). 7500 right now on PR4 and still got some descent rubber left. Done two 2500+ mile continent tours with heavy load on PR4 and like them alot. On my previous GTR1400 (Kawasaki C14), I did 11.000 miles on PR4 GT...

Will try out PR5 next.

I did 6,000miles on original Metzeters, changed them due to a nail in the rear, but reckon I would have achieved another 1000-1500miles otherwise.

Also, how long do you want to ride on a tire that is well past it's best? I tend to take them off sooner rather than later. A couple of guys I ride with could probably get several thousand miles out of tires I am taking off.

My Pilot Road 4 from the factory I rode for about 10.000 km (6500 mi) and they could have lasted a little bit longer, but changed them before a big trip.

My current Road 5's have 7000 km on them, and they seem to wear faster than the PR4. Grip and stability are very good, so I don't complain.

My stock PR4's on my R1200RS lasted over 21000km (13000 miles), which is astonishing to me.

I used to get almost 20000km per set of Metzeler Z6's on my VFR800.
I used to get 15000km per set of Michelin Pilot Road 2's and Pilot Road 3's on my VFR800 and K1300S.

My bikes are usually overloaded with hard luggage stuffed with touring kit, plus my .. robust meatbody.

Probably going Metzeler Roadtec 01's on my R1200RS next. I have the Roadtec 01's on my K1300S and, ignoring life (don't know yet), I found them much more confidence-inspiring than the PR4's.

I was also a big fan of PR4s, having multiple sets on previous bikes.

When I bought the RS it came with Roadtec 01s which were about 50% worn. I figured I'd change them for PR4s before they actually needed changing.

However, I've been so impressed with them, I replaced them with another set of Roadtec 01s.

I know it's all subjective, but it's also about confidence at the end of the day. For example, the PR4s were outstanding in the wet. I've yet to experience any serious wet weather riding since I bought the RS (other than a downpour on the A74 whilst heading up to Scotland; and there aren't many corners to negotiate...)

Forgotten the last time a big bike did 6K miles on a tyre so looking forward to that.

My Tuono will spit Diablo Rosso Corsa's out for breakfast, usually less 2K miles but they were always fun miles

Also looking forward to trying the Z1's as I am not really a fan of the PR4 having had them on the F800, would be nivce if they did a /60 profile juist to speed the turning up a bit

I changed my original Metzeler Z8s for Roadtec 01s at around 6000 miles. Now 2500 miles later I'm very pleased with the 01's performance, especially in the wet, but the front seems to be wearing quite quickly - and I don't do a lot of heavy braking as far as I know. However, when I changed the Z8s the front was the most worn. The rear Roadtec is looking fine.

I've just changed a front Metzeler Z8 to a Roadtec 01. The new 01 completley changes the feel of the bike, much easier to tip into corners and it doesn't want to stand itself up.
This is probably more to do with the Z8 being knackered than a difference between them.
The Z8 had done 8000 miles since I bought the bike and wasn't new then

I can now say the Roadtec 01 is off road capable as well

Hi all, I’ve just returned back to the forum. My 2017 RS is still my favourite bike ever and is blemish free. Re the tyres, the PR4’s standard on the Oz bikes are brilliant performers on combined twisty hills and highway trips. Just replaced the front at 18000 km with a new PR5. So far so good, the rear still has around 5000 km left.
Road trip coming up next week.
