accessories » Has anyone fitted the BMW 49L top box

Has anyone fitted the BMW 49L top box. I ordered one with my new bike before they said it doesn't fit and is not now on the accessory list for the 1200RS, so was it ever?
I thought I would be clever and I have one but of course I need to change the top plate, but jeez does that box look big! (its like a reverse Tardis, big on the outside, as the BMW boxes have tick walls and base so consume alot of space in the inside). Don't want the 30L, they're too tiny
Ta for any advice

At the shop I tried a BMW Vario top box from a R1200GS WC and it fit my RS rack.
The all black Vario top box from a F800GS also fit.

Here's pictures Jetpilot5 posted on another forum showing the GS topbox.

Provided you think about this box- see pic -- then I know a gentelman who has made it.
There is a smalll trick.... can connect you with.

Looks like - GS and XR compatible

I'm very interested in this big top case for mine. Can anyone share which trick is needed (if possible with pictures)??

There's no trick needed the GS Vario case fits directly to the RS OEM top box plate.

I tried in 2018 at the dealer and it didn’t fit.
Did they change anything in the bottom side of the 49L topbox in the meanwhile?
I am very interested in a feedback!

If you so t mind an alternative top case I have the Givi v46 and it fits perfectly fine on my RS. It has plenty of space and much more reasonably priced compared to BMW.. just a thought

Hi folks,

I have fitted the big topcase to my RS.
To adopt I removed the middle support like you can compare in image 1 and 2.
Image 3 shows the RS support and explains why the middle support must to be removed.
On your own risk of course, BMW will not guarantee the use on our RS.

It is the 49l topcase for S1000XR K49 and R1200GS K50.

Topcase installed.
