I've noticed the throttle spring on my RS is very strong...stronger even than on my S1000RR. My arm gets tired holding throttle position. I can, and do, use cruise control to aid this, but it's not always desirable.

Is it me, or is the RS throttle spring especially strong?

Given my arthritis and use of the small OEM grips on the RS, and the similar feel I've had on a few versions of the RR, I'm going to guess that it's specific to your RS. (Or my 2016 RS has a weaker throttle spring.)

I guess you could try a few in the showroom for comparison. I haven't noticed but I do have grip puppies on it.

I also have grip puppies, and I reckon the increased diameter lessens the effect of the spring tension to some extent. Grip puppies or similar take some getting used to, but once you've got a liking for them you won't go back.

I've used Grip Puppies or ebay knock-offs since 2015. As you say, the increased diameter changes the gearing and the tension in your grip. This is more to do with my arthritic hands than the spring being heavy. I take most opportunities to use cruise control to stretch my fingers and rotate my wrist to alleviate symptoms.

I think the small diameter of the stock RS grips possibly mimic that feeling of a stiff return spring. The actual return spring feels "normal" on my '16. But, I can't remember any full size bike I've ridden with grips that small, before. I also would tire of maintaining throttle position for any extended time. That was resolved after installing Grab On covers, same idea as the Grip Puppies everyone else mentioned.

I agree...the grips are small-ish. Another thought: I just installed Heli risers on the RS, and while it may be coincidence, I'm just now noticing the throttle spring tension, and a nerve tingle at the base of my neck. The Heli risers take weight off the wrists (good), but may also cause me to use more arm muscle tension in maintaining throttle position. Also changes the geometry of my head/body position, which might explain the nerve "stinger". Weird? Probably, but it's funny how changing one little thing can have repercussions elsewhere.

check the angle at your wrist and rotate the levers if necessary. Ideally you want a straight line down your forearm, through your wrist and along your middle finger resting on the clutch/brake lever. If you have a kinky wrist then you will be putting pressure on nerves

Lever angles already set so the line through forearm to hand is straight. Learned that a long time ago. I'm still thinking the Heli risers have made a subtle alteration in how much muscle tension is now used vs with the stock setup.
