Exhausts and Engine » Engine cut out and wouldn't re-start right away

I have a 2016 with 32,000 miles. Never had a problem before, but on my way home from a 200 mile ride, I was on a highway section when there was a short traffic jam. Going maybe 30 mph, the engine suddenly died. Ignition (dash) still on, but nothing happened when I pushed the starter switch. Luckily it was easy enough to coast to a stop on the side of the highway where I shut off the bike. Re-started it and the engine fired right up immediately. Rode the last 30 miles home no problem. Weird - and disconcerting. Any ideas on the possible cause, or similar experiences? Thanks!

Computer control get in the way? I know starter will not engage if it thinks the motor is running as to not damage the system. Maybe being in motion or you attempted to start while the sensors still registered motor rotation, which would happen if you were in gear.

Could be the battery, my 2016 did just the same last year.

Thanks, everyone for the thoughts. I definitely did not touch the sidestand and there were no warning lights. Clutch was engaged while I was coasting so engine was not turning. The battery suggestion is a good one - it's the original battery and I already have a new one at home that I am installing next week before a 3500 mile road trip! Ady, did your battery show any signs of struggling because mine seems to work just fine. (Replacing it anyway as it's just a matter of time...)

Had something similar not long ago. I was firing the bike out of a roundabout in third gear when the engine cut out briefly and then took off again. The sudden decompression slammed my bent right wrist into the handlebar. Fortunately that hasn't happened again. Nor do I want it to.
