Had a Nav V years ago, worked well; had the opportunity for a good deal on a Nav VI so bought that. Didn't work so replaced it. That didn't work either, so got rid and reverted to my V, several years ago now. Still going strong, no plans to change...

I have just sent my 4th one back to Garmin, as it was Ghosting, for a free replacement. Very good service with no questions asked, but it's still a very poor product for the price. They are still saying the improved model should be out by the end of the year. But will it be compatible with the NAV6 mount?

I’ve read a comment on the UKGser forum that there is a Nav 7 on the way. Doesn’t make sense to me given their connected ride device. I am still using and very happy with my Nav 5.

I dropped by my dealer today to check out the new Connected Ride device. It is an entirely new unit. Garmin is history. The unit is now TomTom based. Like the Nav6 it is designed to pair with your phone, in place of your phone connecting to the TFT. Nav, Telephone, and media get greyed out on the bike as the functions move to the unit. The GPS will automatically record rides and save them to your account either by wireless or by Cell service if you install an activated SIM card. All updates happen automatically. GPX files are pushed to the unit through the app. I don't see a lot of value added if you already have a bike with a TFT and the connected app, as there is too much overlap, but it is a nice unit. I passed at a price of US $890. My be a good addition to those bikes without a TFT that want to add that functionality.

Update to post 3,

I secured a NIB Nav5 last week. Should be here mid next week. 300.10 with shipping. That makes 2 5's and a 4 i use on two beemers. I use the 5 with the 4 as backup on trips. I'll keep the NIB Nav5 until the older 5 or the 4 craps out sometime in the future, and it keeps me from having to search for either when one goes down in the future.

No connected ride app, wunderlinq for me, I refuse to use my phone for navigation on the motors. I don't have to worry about a 1200.00 phone being lost from a cradle, being damaged due to vibrations, going blank in the sun from the heat [ and out here, heat is a consideration 6 months a year ].

The Nav 4 has been flawless since 2017 [ 50K miles ], the current 5 has been flawless [ 20+K miles ]. I see no reason to swap what works for something that is a workaround or have to use the phone for travel.

For any fellow riders out here that may need a nav unit repaired i can highly recomend this company.

Chris replaced a Nav5 screen for me a few months ago. The new Nav5 I bought didn't have all the US and Canada map. I worked with Garmin on the phone for 2 hours and we couldn't get the full map to load [ it would time out after 25-30 minutes and not finish the install [ likely my internet connection is too slow is what they determined.

I called Chris again, explained the scenario, he said ship it to him. He should have it Monday next week. Quoted 40-50.00 to load North America and return it to me. I'll get it back in a few weeks. He's johnny on the spot on repairs/service on Garmin products. Turn around on the new screen a few months ago was just 10 days [ including shipping times ].

Can't recommend him enough. Great to have a resource that can fix issues without having to buy another unit.

Got the Nav5 back from Chris, the world is whole once again. He loaded all of NA with an upgraded memory card. It had an 8gig and it didn't have enough room to load the full NA maps. He replaced it with a 16gig.

This is an old thread now but here is the story of my six year old Nav VI.

This had been getting progressively difficult to use with an unresponsive screen, frequently not responding to pressed symbols. Eventually, it did the full ghosting thing and I rang Garmin explaining the problem.

The very helpful lady at Garmin listened to my description and said no problem, we will send you a new one. Within a few minutes, I had a return label by email and sent the faulty unit to Garmin. Three days later the new one arrived! This is much faster, crisper and more responsive than the old one and I think that the service from Garmin has been superb. I am very pleased.
