in planning » Winter trip to Big Bend Texas

Every year we do a December trip from Dallas to somewhere south and maybe warmer. Last year we went all the way to Mexico which was an interesting adventure / disaster. I had a wee spill on a rocky dirt road riding my ktm Superduke and had to ride home with broken ribs.

This year we are going to Big Bend leaving Granbury, tx early Friday and back Monday. Staying in Alpine for 3 nights and have routes through the park on Saturday and Sunday. Will post a trip report when I get back.

Not to late for anyone in the area to join us. Should be a bit cold but none of the wet stuff. Hotel rooms available in Granbury for Thursday might the Alpine fri, sat, sun,

Disclosure: We are Scottish so drinking beer and bad language may be encountered.

That would be a fun time to go. Might be a little cold at night in Alpine but should be nice down at the park and the River Road.
What motel are you staying at in Alpine?

Should be a nice trip. Being from Scotland cold is not to much of a problem to me. Just the frost we need to watch for early morning. One good thing about big bend is I never come across deer. Not sure if they live there or not. Had a couple of brown trouser moments in the Texas hill country. Just seems to be an over supply of the things at the moment.

We decided to stay in the Holiday Inn this year. Not very rustic but the theory is they may have their COVID processes down more than some of the local shacks. Not sure if that is a valid assumption or not.
