2021 BMW Tame the Tail of the Dragon (TTD) near Deals Gap NC/TN USA - April/May

All, I am sharing this event with the RS community as it is one of my favorite gatherings. I've been twice and enjoyed it immensely each time.

Great folks surrounded by great roads, hosted at a great venue. Iron Horse Motorcycle Lodge offers many types of lodging (which may be sold/selling out) including camping (usually they can always accommodate more) and offers on-site breakfast and dinner options, making it easier to make the days all about riding. There are group rides from scenic to spirited or plenty of road to explore on your own.

I've got a reservation for the event... now I just need a reservation for the vaccine! Assuming I can go safely, I'll be leaving a few days prior, taking the scenic route on the way down over at least 2 days (same on the return days) and welcome other capable mountain riders.

I’ve added it to the calendar. I can’t camp...don’t do well outdoors, and I’d need a room to myself...maybe one other person where we both know we’re Covid-free for the time running up to the event. I’ll look into what’s available nearby.

Cool. If there's no private or semi-private rooms left, there's some single-room cabins that are small and quasi camping/primitive some friend stayed in last year. I'll get the name. There's a Comfort Inn in Robinsville that's a popular choice as well.

I'm checking to see what's available now. I'd prefer to stay at the event site as it's an easy 20 minutes to/from the nearest alternative lodging.

I rode my R1150R from Washington DC to Tellico Plains, TN to Asheville, NC around 15 years ago. Spectacular scenery, a fair amount of law enforcement some visible and some not so visible. The hairpins on the Dragon are quite wonderful- looking through the turns helps! Good luck and enjoy, I wish I could be there!

If you’re in an “at risk” category, I understand, but I’m not vaccinated and don’t expect to be any time soon. I’ll just bring sanitizing agents, masks, and take precautions. When they talk of “superspreader events,” the issue is a whole lot of people not taking reasonable precautions to not spread the disease. Of course, if I suspect I’ve been exposed or have contracted Covid, I’ll stay home.
