RE: OBDLink LX & Motoscan diagnostic tool - 2

Are the additional driving lights you are looking at in addition to the OE or OA LED driving light, ie. the single vertical LED strip between the headlights?

I recently had a the Pro shift assistant fitted to my 2016 R1200RS, and because BMW requires payment to enable the QS function, you are forced to go to a BMW dealer. Not possible with Motoscan. Easy to fit the hardware (shift sensor) yourself, but without the enabling coding you are going nowhere.

Hopefully Motoscan can do the trick for your aux driving lights, but you would need to contact Motoscan for confirmation. I see Motoscan in K54 (R1200RS) mode lists a control unit called "Headlight electronics (ASW). maybe you can do the coding there?

I have Motoscan but have not had much opportunity to play with it, and I'm not in your situation with the aux driving lights so can't really offer a definitive answer.

I'm also new to Motoscan and like you, I find it seems that one cannot do a complete scan of all control units for all fault codes in one go as you can with GS-911. You need to scan each unit separately (or so it seems). My impression of Motoscan is that it's in it's infancy as compared to GS-911, but I guess you get what you pay for. Not that I'm putting Motoscan down though, it does seem to work as advertised.

I have an older GS-911 interface which does not work on my 2016 R1200RS, so I went for the cheaper Motoscan "ultimate" option+ ODBII LX interface.

Incidentally, GS-911 HQ is 50 km from where I live in Cape Town, South Africa, and what a great helpful bunch they are! Not knocking either product, but quite honestly I'd expect Motoscan from "Deutschland aus" to be way better than a proudly South African product, but not so. Hats of to GS-911! BTW I'm in no way affiliated to GS-911!

Thanks for your replies on my query on using the OBDLink LX to get my 2nd hand OEM LED driving lights to work.

The lights came with the OEM wiring loom and switch that fits onto the left handlebar. I had to unplug the bike's original wiring from the the single vertical LED strip between the headlights and plug my second hand wiring loom in its place. As I recall the plug removed from the vertical LED was then replugged in to an available unused plug attached on the leftt side under the fairing. So I assume it is now intergrated in with the the vertical LED and whole lighting system (if I can get it to work) . As suggested by Mr 36654 I will send an email to MotoScan and see what they say. Thanks again.

Just thought I'd chip in with a comment, after running another thread on a similar subject.

The GS911 will not allow changes to the instrument cluster in the R1200RS such as mph conversion, or psi to bar, etc, as they've not yet cracked the XKOMBI53 controller which is what controls the Instrument cluster. (From HEXCode)
My free Motoscan cannot read it either.

My GS911 will also not read the similar info on my 1200GS LC, I presume, for similar reasons. (XKOMBI50)
However my free Motoscan WILL read the Instrument Cluster on the GS and would allow me to code (make changes) should I have had a better OBD2. (Watch this space)

Freddyfruitbat, I can come and put my 911 on your bike if you wish and get an Autoscan of the results, showing fault codes. This doesn't use a VIN.
