My 2020 R1250RS TFT will Sync with an iPhone but not with iPhone phone book

I have been able to connect my iPhone (X) to the bike TFT and my Cardo Bold Talk. Music works and I see my music lists on the TFT. But I cannot get my iPhone phone book to sync on the TFT. I see a message "updating" but nothing seems to happen. I have unpaired both from each other multiple times then reconnected and it still does not work. |

I have had the same issue. If I recall it just took a long time but eventually finished ‘updating’ during a long ride. |

Zitat von Oscarguitar im Beitrag #2 He makes a good point. How large is your phone books and/or music library? Presuming the TFT has a low performance CPU, it may take time to integrate with a phone over Bluetooth. Also, make sure your BMW app and phone have updated software/iOS.

It is pathetic that users all over the world are struggling and if you call BMW Motorrad you get either a dolt or a liar who says that there are not technical people in the United States or the world other than in dealerships. That is a lie. The dealers are trained by corporate. Corporate has national and regional reps for sales, service, parts, finance. The fact is that the BMW gear is bug-ridden and the Krauts never admit a damned thing. I have a patent in software. I taught comp sci. I was in the car business for 15 years at the corporate level. That there are forums on dozens of platforms with distraught owners trying to help each other like abused women, is astounding. I have a GS Adventure with a TFT and NAV6, a smartphone and a Sena helmet communicator. It took me hours to find a video (58 minutes long) that allows these things to co-exist and not disconnect. But with what funcionality? Not much. There is a stupid app that should allow you to GO to a destination but does not and even if it did it does not have the phone's contacts. Only the TFT has those. Why would you have a superfluous app on a phone? You have a TFT, you have a GPS (NAV6). You need the phone for one reason....the cellular network. I got contacts to download to the TFT through C. Then an M. I have called Sena and Garmin. They were much more helpful but could not in the end help. Only BMW can and they are German and won't. Instead they promote these stupid boards. You'd think there would be heads rolling. |

I seriously doubt they're provided with any sort of technical troubleshooting guidance outside of how the app is supposed to work at a very basic level. Look at the auto industry as an example; models that don't offer Android Auto and/or Apple CarPlay suffer competitive disadvantages. Podcasting & Internet-based subscription music services are slowly but surely replacing areas traditionally held by satellite and terrestrial radio. Secondly, and perhaps more broadly, manufacturers need to appeal to younger buyers. That being said, and also being no youngster myself any longer, I'm very much a nerd and freakin' LOVE the TFT displays and view the additional complexities as engaging rather than superfluous. Yeah, sure it's complicated and causes headaches at times but when it works, at least for me, provides a heightened level of immersion and enjoyment to the experience. I wouldn't want my next bike to be without the stuff. The dash and controls are the parts of a bike I see and interact with most and that part of the bike is very important to me.

I have been using computers since 1979 in academia, employment and for leisure. I love cruise control and quickshift that make riding physically easier. I love the traction control and ABS that make things safer. There comes a point when the over-dependence on the GUI becomes a distraction that in turn becomes a safety hazard. Plus, from an aesthetics point of view, an analogue, mechanical dial is so much nicer as a rev counter, especially the white dialled one on my S1000XR that spins up to 10,000rpm befor e the white light starts flashing.

With the 10 inch TFT I don't like the idea of having to store the maps on my phone to see the navigation map on the TFT. A lot of times I don't even have my phone on when on the bike :) I do have the phone on when I think I might want to see the weather radar on my GPS. This spring I was talking to a couple guys at a motel with new Indian touring bikes. Those bikes had great TFT displays that were large, easy to read and easy to navigate. They also had maps installed so you did not have to use a phone.

Then there are the BMW Navigators that are very poor value and inferior to the most recent devices sold by the actual maker, Garmin. I'm quite happy to have a Garmin Zumo on a RAM ball. My current Zumo 390 has been used on 4 bikes since 2015.
