Looks good.
The crossbar finish should last for years, unless you put the stand back on the bike :)

Knowing how the crossbar gets blasted, I may add some sacrificial tape to help the coating last a little bit longer.

That's exactly what I did a couple of years back, wrapped the cross bar in black fabric tape - seems to adhere well and no further thinning of the paint, so I'm satisfied with this solution.

I've done the same thing on both my GS' but used multi layer helicopter tape, secured at each end with a couple of cable ties as it tends to unwrap from the tube due to it's relatively thin diameter and replace it when the outer layer wears through
