I have a friend who's originally from Texas. When the topic of hitting a deer comes up he usually says, "the deer in Maryland are much more stupid than those in Texas." I don't know about that, but since you're about twice as likely to hit one in Maryland I can see where he might think that.

Same in California, but they are now also including mountain lions and skunks. Unfortunately, the mountain lions are just not keeping up with their deer-thinning job and nothing much eats skunks other than the occasional Buick.

The same???? The odds of hitting a deer in PA is 1 in 63. By comparison, the odds in CA are 1 in 1125. Even on a log-scale plot, those numbers aren't similar.....

I think we need to disagree on this one

When I said "the same" I meant the way people feel about the animals, not the number flattened. Venison is not very popular as a meal in CA - at least until they make an "Impossible" vegan version of the dish.

BTW, one of those four-legged rats strolled by my home last night and helped itself to two new shrubs that I had planted in my front yard two days ago. And it pulled another one out of the planter and tried to take off with it for a midnight snack, before loosing interest and dropping it on my driveway. So I have it in for mule deer.

My Aunt, mom's kid sister, is a feisty 80 something. A few years back, she was having some deer - garden issues, so I bought her a low/mid grade air rifle to provide some persuasion to Bambi. Anyhow, after a few months, I asked her about the deer problem. Apparently, the air gun was a bust......they didn't seem to notice.........regardless of where they were hit. I asked her what she wanted to try next. She said she had it taken care of. I asked how. She said .22.
