Having just placed my order for a new R1250RS I asked about the alarm and was told that BMW dont fit them as standard anymore but they do fit a tracker which insurance companies like. I can see that the tracker will help with the revcovery of a stolen bike but my thought is that the Alarm should be a deterent to it getting nicked in the first place.

My GSA came with an alarm fitted and I paid to have a BikeTrac tracker installed when I bought it - interestingly enough the only time I got an alert to it being moved was when it was at the dealers for a service although it was reassuring to get not only a text but also an email and phone call from BikeTrac to check it was a legit movement.

Apparently its approx. £350 to get a BMW alarm retro fitted

Hmmm, I was able to specify an alarm on my R1200RS Sports SE back in 2016. Thanks to very secure arrangements at home I only use the alarm when its parked for significant periods elsewhere - typically during hotel stays on tours.
Given that you will have a tracker, I’d be tempted to just use an alarmed disk lock as a visible deterrent and audible warning, but again that comes from someone with a very secure home parking arrangement (or so I believe!).

when I ordered my 1250RS exclusive in February this year, the tracker was standard but the alarm was a selectable option in the build I have it on mine.
Looked at the build your own on the uk bmw website and it still shows as an option, should also be a dealer fit option.
