How's it going out there in boxer land, I have a question for all u 1200rs owners. My bike now has about 3000km on it and I have noticed that if I'm on the hwy in forth gear @ 100 kmph give it full throttle it tends to hesitate until it gets over 5000rpm and then it pulls like a steam train. You don't notice it in 1,2 or third gear but in 4,5 or 6th it's there... and obvious to the point that it's annoying now. I don't know if I'm just getting used to the bike and noticing all the little quirky thing attributed to a boxer(been an inline 4 guy all my life 🙄🙄🙄) |

My '16 RS didn't and my '17 RS doesn't have any flat spots in the power delivery. This is in any gear. (USA models) 2017 R1200RS- 18,000 mi. 18 mo. |

My 18 does it too, accelerates in a step-wise fashion that I didn't notice at first. But then as I became more accustomed to my bike on the highway, I noticed this tendency. You can just feel that CPU massaging the throttle settings, air and gas mix and timing so that the UHC's are at the Euro 4 standards...(UHC = Unburned Hydro Carbons)....I hate it!! But I intend to get the whole thing re-programmed for maximum performance throughout the rev range...much to the Exhaust Sniffing Nanny's chagrin! Arrrrrghhh! |

If a shop did that in California, they could be fined $10,000 per vehicle and possibly also loose their DMV license. More than one company has been run out of the state because they developed and/or sold products that were not approved by the vehicle manufacturer and the Nanny State. My brother is the president of a 1970's "muscle car" club and he says that his members are running scared as the state is threatening vehicle owners who have aftermarket mufflers with one thousand dollar fines if they get caught with them. Most of the people in his club use generic glass pack mufflers as finding an original muffler that hasn't rusted out by now is pretty much impossible. And who manufactures mufflers for 50 year old cars that match the original design and construction? Several years ago I bought a British-made aftermarket muffler for my Royal Enfield - not the most environmentally-sensitive motorcycle around. The muffler was purchased from the importer's accessory company and it came with a warning that it could not be installed on a motorcycle in California that was licensed for the road. (I gave that warning the respect it deserved, of course.) You would certainly think that the EU wouldn't let California get ahead of them when it comes to environmental regulations and big fines. (In California, cars get inspected every other year for emissions and related equipment, but fortunately motorcycles do not - yet.)

A company near Seattle was doing good business reprogramming ECUs for all variants of Yamaha bikes with 850cc triple engines due to low rev lumpiness and the speed restriction on US models. In the UK, we have an annual safety check after a vehicle is 3 years old. This does involve emissions test for cars but I don't think bikes are included yet. |
Zitat von Ryco im Beitrag #1 I fitted a booster plug to my RS because of mixture issues, I was getting lag when opening throttle on the overun, it cured all its mixture issues, I have just removed it from my bike as its going in P/X, if you have problems its worth fitting one, it fits between the temperature sensor in the airbox, plug and play. I have a Booster Plug on my 2009 F650GS. It is made by "Booster Plug" - of course. It appears to consist of a resister installed between the bike's temperature probe and the FI computer that makes the computer think that the ambient temperature is colder than it really is. That causes the FI system to richen the fuel mixture slightly. The device is well made, with the proper connections and it is easy to install. However, on my F650 it only seemed to improve a lean surge when the bike was running "open loop" at full throttle. It did little to improve the on-off throttle transition and when operating in a "closed-loop" under part throttle. But then it also had no effect on fuel mileage - probably since I very rarely use full throttle. Attached are a couple of photos of the device installed on my "650" twin.

I understand it incorporates a "Varistor" which is a variable resistor device. The trick is to keep it away from engine heat as it can effect the device characteristic. I have one on my R1150RS and works well but the R1200 ECU is more sophisticated and readjusts the air/fuel mixture. |

Zitat von Bikepirate im Beitrag #10 I had a quick look on UKGSer and these devices seem to be recommended for any 1100/1150/1200 boxer up to the first major revision of the R1200, often called the hexhead i.e. the version of the motor before our water cooled version. For the hexhead and LC bikes you need to reprogramme the ECU to get the best results so there seems to be a consensus for the action you are taking. |
