I've been looking for any information on when the 2019 RS's will start landing in the USA. I've read a few articles that mention that the other R bikes are getting a 1250 motor, but there seems to be zero information on the RS. I found a few of those spammy redirect you to a "shithole with no real information" sites, though.

I am pretty much ready to make a deal on the right bike, but dealers in Northern California have limited RS availability, all that's around are bronze/black bikes and I'd rather have a Magellan or Lupin / white. If i am going to spend 20 grand on a bike, it may as well look the way I want it to. :)

It looks like the "Navigation Prep" thing is mandatory on any bike with the upgraded packages. Will dealers take those off for a credit, or am I stuck with something I won't use? I prefer to use my cell phone for navigation since it reduces clutter.

Any reason to consider aftermarket luggage options for the new RS, or will I be happier with the OEM cases? I likes the cases on my old RS, except for the odd shape of course.


Lastly, if there are any RSers from Northern California who can recommend a dealer in the Bay Area?

I saw a piece that said Spring 2019 for the RS

2019 R1250RS will be present at the annual stockholm motorcycle fair in January according to my BMW reseller.
I wouldn't be surprised if it show up on EICMA in Milan 6-11 nov.

Having used a phone GPS and the Nav V, the Nav V wins by a wide margin on the RS. Mounting is an issue, but I was lucky to get the Vortex mount..

I think I read somewhere recently that BMW is switching from Garmin to Tom Tom for their 2019 integrated GPS units. I wonder why? Price, perhaps?

Hey MR, a few answers to your questions.

1. I'm in NorCal, in SF proper. The dealer I use is SFBMW on Brannan, and I've always found dealing with them a good experience. I've also heard good things about San Jose BMW, but have not experienced this personally. Be aware that the RS is NOT a popular bike. I bought the last lupin blue/white from SFBMW in 2016, and when I take the bike back for service they often do not have an RS in stock. Lots of GS, RTs and R9Ts. This may mean that CalMoto (east bay), SJ or SF BMW may have a 2018 around that they really want to sell and may make a deal on.

2. Getting new bikes in - if there is a 2019 release, I would call a NorCal dealer to see when these are going to come in to get a better time line. My estimate would be May, based on that when I was buying my RS, I asked about getting a non-keyless ride. SFBMW was happy to place that order, but with the caveat that I probably wouldn't see the bike for 4-6 months.

3. You won't get a credit for removal of the SatNav. When I bought the RS, I wanted to the stock turn signals removed and replaced with LED, and SatNav cradle removed, and MaMo engine protectors installed. I got the extra parts in a box to take home, with no reduction in price. This was actually ok in hindsight as I eventually changed my mind on the SatNav, and had the cradle re-installed. Note that the RS that come to California are all fully loaded, so if you don't like an option, you're going to have to decide to either live with it or do the special order and wait.

4. I like the BMW panniers. They are expensive, but IMHO they integrate better with the bike than aftermarket, and open with the metal key on the keyless fob.
