Up here, dealers don't really take "orders" on bikes, they come with a pre-packaged group of options. So you can add things that aren't shipped on the bike but not decline equipment if the bike was sold to the dealer with those options. Which reminds me you can buy a real Land Cruiser in Oz, but not up here. It's enough to make you want to emigrate! Jim |

My 1100RS was really a great handling bike once I installed Ohlins shocks, but it seems that other than the rear shock, there isn't really an option to upgrade forks. Or am I missing something? Jim |

Yes, I also thought it would be the perfect bike - until the day I rode the new RS for the first time! Apart from the 25 horsepower and 50ccm more, the new engine felt twice as powerful. The chassis requires curves and is much easier to handle. Sometimes I miss the Telelever, in bad road conditions he has put a lot more away. Whether, or better how much, the better driving characteristics are due solely to the loss of Telelevers I do not know, but the direct fork has advantages in the feeling of the road. All in all, the handling characteristics in bends are incredibly much better, you'll soon notice for yourself.

I sold my 2016 a few months ago and have the money set aside for a 2019 *IF* it comes with a TFT display as I hated the poorly-designed instrument Custer. LED headlights and a properly placed GPS mount ABOVE the instruments would be on my wishlist too. Come on BMW! 2016 1200RS - Sold and waiting for the 2019 |

As the bike I was trading in (GTR1400/Concours) had OEM panniers that only fit that bike, I would have been left pannier-less; no good for touring. So, I coughed up for the OEM panniers. Pros: The pannier colour matches my Granite Grey bike, and they have a handy "shelf" inside to stop the contents hitting the road when you open them. Cons: They aren't very big; then neither is the OEM top box. Personally, I think the mounting rails look a tad "messy" when the panniers aren't mounted. With hindsight, I could have spent less money and got a full Shad luggage set including mounting kit (this includes a top box). I'm not sure I would have gained any capacity per se, but the pannier mounting system is very neat indeed. Plus, it would give me the option to upgrade to a larger top box if needed. Just my two pennyworth. Cheers Paul B. |

I used Givi V-35 side cases on my 2016. They looked great, had more room and were half the price of the OEM cases. For a top case I used a Givi V47.

Porsche loved to deliver new inventory as late as possible, in order to create a pent up demand, and clear old model year cars out of inventory, so there was little to do, but wait.
