Service carried out yesterday & neither recall is on the system for my bike. Seems strange, but I expect I'll get a letter this week telling me to take it back in!!

I'm booked in for 18000mile service later this month for my 2016 (66 plate) RS. Neither recall coming up on the website & when I checked with the dealer nothing is showing for my bike? Reading this thread it seems like the circlips should be all bikes?

Received letter from BMW dated 30th October stating recall for clips. Not sure when it arrived but away from 1st to 12th Nov. Letter heading says All models. Contacted Vines today and was told recall is not for my R1250RS exclusive registered 1st July 2020. Requested and received from Vines confirmation email. You would expect that having found a problem BMW could advise the right people.

I had the recall letter 20th November for the Footrest clips (from BMW Group UK - not DVLA) and had already been advised of this by Ocean BMW Plymouth of this and the shaft drive inspection.

Called them last friday and have an appointment for early Jan 2024 and also have agreed to pay for the shaft drive splines to be greased.

Will be glad to have this checked as I am suffering from "too much info/catastrophic failure syndrome" after watching those youtube videos of doom!

Every time I take the bike out I convince myself the back wheel is vibrating, feels strange for at least 2 miles -- then nothing, I forget as everything smooths out - carry on and enjoy the day out!

I understand if there is any issue with the shaft drive they can be replaced under warranty and also around 35,000 miles they will be replaced, although not sure of the processes.

Agreed with the service department in October to wait 2000 miles when the 18k service, new tyres and brake fluid, in the spring but changed plans!

Used this dealership since 2005 for five R1200 variants and where where I place my trust for service, warranty, spares and back-up so glad they are only 30 miles from home.

Following the above I wrote to BMW Customer Services on the 15th November enclosing a copy of Vines email requesting they confirm recall letter was sent in error. Having not received a reply I phoned BMW to chase up a reply. After 20 minutes on the phone they informed me they could not write to me as they had no record on the BMW system of the recall letter. They then transferred me to Customer Complaints who also had no record but they did inform me that such a letter, which is on BMW headed paper, would have been sent by the DVL and not BMW-this took a further 20 minutes. Since a complaint has been raised they will investigate and report back to me and I will let you know what they say. No it is not April fools day and if you find this difficult to believe join the club!!

Now booked in at the Glasgow dealer on 5 March when the bike and I come out of hibernation

I'm promised a "while you wait" service, provided the shaft isn't stuck.

He didn't exactly promise me a new drive shaft, but did say he'd make sure they have one in stock on the day.

He'll chuckle when I lift the unused pillion pegs out of my top box.

I'll make a note in my diary to try and book a test ride on something else (not that I'm buying).
