RE: 2024 R1300GS Intro Video - 2

I like the new bike, smaller muffler and all that but I was hoping they would put a real fork on it like the RS has. I don't like that cantilever fork much. The fairing looks more like the RS fairing to me and it looks like it might be better than the old one .... I have looked at a couple of 1200 gs for a second bike but the fork does remind of why I went with the RS ... We'll have to see how this goes, they really did change a lot with both the frame and the engine getting a new layout as well.
I thought the video was a little rough on the environment. Usually when you do go off of any trail you would take it real easy or just not leave the trail at all .... That is a problem out west as there are far too many of us and we have to be sensible about how we ride in the back country. Some of those environments don't heal from that sort of thing at all or very slowly .... There are plenty of trails out there to stay on and motosport parks where you can do a film ....

On my 1250GS I use a small Wunderlich screen extender that I originally bought for the RS. It was of little benefit to me on that bike but clipped on the GS I can ride at 70mph with the visor up. So at least for me I have great wind protection on the GS.
If it were not for my stiff hip and the need to be more upright, I would however stick to the RS, always a more engaging ride.

So I kind of guess that the GS has less wind protection, not having ridden one. But I thought it might be interesting to have a used one as a winter bike and just to knock about on, in spite of that weird fork..... The RS with the fancy bits on it is like having a Porsche for sunday drives, very nice but not something you want to get out when there is salt on the roads and sand and gravel. They also have a BMW club here that meets on saturdays for informal rides and it seems most of the bikes are GS's. After breaking my leg (on the bicycle) this last winter I came up on the yearly service before 6000 miles so I'm not riding the one I have enough lol. and I'm concerned that the prices might still dip some on the used GSs and I don't want to get one and not be able to trade it off. ..... I have the taller smoke touring screen on the RS and it really works well. Very cozy in the up position and lots of air in the lower position. I did manage to almost shred the front tire in 3000 miles, It seems that the tire might be a little under sized for the amount of breaking power imo. I do use the front brake ....

You get different screens depending on the specific options you get on the GS. The keep showing the small screen, but that's a bit misleading.

We're interested in the new GS because the The RS will get that engine in a couple years.

Also I'm watching anything that may work for us 2 up in-case Debbie has to give up riding her own bike.

I've never been interested in a GS but I have to admit the new GS is not ugly :)

I've been looking at harleys, and the GS quite a bit but only as a second bike (Denver has a huge used bike market) .... the RS is now the main bike and will stay very likely. After all I've had the Slash 5 since 83 .... The boxer is in my DNA .... The slash five was also my Dads bike, you can see it on my page ..... but I do keep things in pairs it seems, so a used 1200 GS and then later maybe a new one after I've absorbed the cost of the 22 RS. You never know the 1250 may prove to be the one to keep .....

The new GS is a great looking bike now. Gone is that Tractor image. The green paint looks cool too. What's not to like... Apart from those pannier plug covers that are a bit of a let down
