Thanks for everyone for the advice over the last few years.

I finally found myself a bit bored of the RS and boxer engine and sold it. Mostly because I got into riding track on a 450 supermotard, and after that experience, road riding became so very dull in my opinion.Plus, I never got used to the tractor sound of the boxer engine.

I then wanted to chase that thrill on the road with a ktm 690 or Husky 701, but after trying three (one wobbled at high speed and the other two cut out whilst I was trying them) , I was put off the idea due to reliability fears.

Someone recently mentioned they always thought I would get the XR, which spurred me to life again. Hadn´t thought about that bike for a while but lusted after it when I bought the RS.

FInally managed to try one the other day, and was smiling ear to ear again. That inline 4 pull and sound, is what I needed all along ( the upright position isn´t bad either).

So I am off, to rekindle my love of road riding, I hope that the XR is all I hope it to be.

Interesting that you ended up choosing the RS over the XR, what did it for you in the end?

Quit work, sold house, no mortgage, buying cheaper house, lower income meant downsizing the bikes to one keeper.

XR has a chain and when really hot it belches out a lot of heat in the wrong places. I enjoyed riding it otherwise, but ultimately I prefer big twins and shaft drive. RS is better at speed on a motorway if in a hurry due to better aerodynamics and sportier ergonomics.

The RS is the coolest bike I have owned . 1st summer I have ridden in 98 to 110 degrees . My previous bikes anything past 95 was a no .

Yes I did notice that heat just sitting at the lights the other day, that will be a pain in Spain in the summer!

Congrats, change can be good. I may be following down the same path, waiting for BMW to provide the details on the 24 M 1000 XR .
