I bet there’s folk on here who hardly know what an MOT Test is, with a new bike every 2 or 3 years keeping them away from the annual worry over a test.

My trusty steed has been tested annually since its third birthday by the same chap.

As the bike shows up as clean as it can be he doesn’t have to fight his way past the grime, so the actual inspection doesn’t take long at all.

A shot on the headlamp beam machine, followed by a whirl on the brake roller machine saw me walk away with the essential stamp in the electronic book. 6 years in a row. 43K now.

As he knows me and the bike well, he simply mentioned that there wasn’t a huge amount of life left in the rear pads. Not worthy of an “Advisory” notice.

I told him I have spares in a drawer and they’ll be fitted later. When I popped new front pads in late last year the rear pads still had lots of life.

Roll on 2024.

In California cars get checked for emissions every two years but bikes never get checked by anyone for anything after they are first sold. That is really helpful for the Harley crowd who don't like stock mufflers - or any at all, for that matter.

In Missouri, there are several variations. St. Louis requires cars to have an emissions test along with a safety inspection. The rest of Missouri (not sure about KC) does not require the emissions, but requires a safety inspection. Bikes have to have safety inspections, not emissions. And no one needs any inspection for five years or 100,000 miles (160,000 km) after date of manufacture.

Ha, similar to mine - 2016 reg., 48000 miles, 5 successful MOT's with the same chap. Am I complacent? Absolutely not - I'm always a bag of nerves while it's being tested!!
