I cross-shopped the 1000XR and the RS, the 'standard' 1kXR already has more than enough power - even too much if you tend to stay below felony speeds. At that sort of money you're either serious about sport riding and do track days where SR or SRR make a whole lot more sense - OR - you need a weekend coffee run show off bike you'll put 1500 miles per year (plenty of those, fair) where again the SRR or a V4 would score more 'attention' points.
For touring you sacrifice the almighty shaft drive, range, and for me the i4 is far more 'edgy' considering what you'd want when doing 500 mile/day with a pillion and full luggage.
