Lee: This is really cool, watching your adventure unfold. So...I have some questions:

1. How tall are you? What windscreen setting are you using (mounting holes, top or bottom)? Windscreen position (up or down)? It looks like the lowest position, but I'm curious as I've found whenever I lower it to the lowest position combination, noise drops.
2. What gear are you wearing (jacket, pants, boots, helmet)?
3. Your bike(s) look clean...how's that possible on a multi-day ride?
4. How did you find such a cool wife, who rides?
5. When staying overnight at hotel/motel/whatever, what steps (if any) do you take to safeguard your bikes? Covers, protection from curious people who might want to get too close to your bikes?

Now that I've got an RS, I'm contemplating trips like yours and seeking information about "tried and true" strategies.

Thank you Mr 36 for not complaining about me hyjacking your thread :)

It warmed up fast this morning and it was 59 when we left the motel.
63 with a nice tailwind when we arrived home around 2:30.

1. I'm 6' with 34" inseam. Debbie is 5'10" with 34" inseam. Both of us have the shield mounted in the lower holes and in the low position. We have owned S and RS BMWs since 1991 and prefer low shields.
2.Schuberth C4. 2018 Klim Latitude Jacket and pants. Purchased this winter when the 2023 Latitude came out and purchased these on clearance. Debbie has the women's version. We usually buy the previous versions of gear to save some money. We had older versions of the same suits. Debbie also has a BMW Streetguard 4 suit she uses on cold trips. I have the BMW Streetguard 4 pants. Both of us have the previous BMW GS Dry jackets. All the gear was purchased on sale.
Boots are BMW CruiseComfort. We broke down and paid full price for those :)
3. In the morning if there's dew on the bikes I ask the motel for a couple cleaning rags to wipe down the bikes. One day this trip we had 20 or 30 miles of wet roads and I was able to clean the bikes with a really wet rags. (the bikes were not gritty)
Some motels have a bike wash area or let you use their hose if one is handy.
4. I was very lucky
5. Never had any problems but good idea to have some common sense. If we get a bad feeling about a town or area we keep going.
Park in a lit area. Park where you can see the bikes from your room or the front desk can see the bikes. If the motel has a large canopy area a lot of places let you park there. Make sure to ask and make sure the bikes are not in peoples way when they unload or load their vehicle. We used to carry half covers, but not very often now.
We used to use the covers to cover our gear if we were away from the bikes for several hours on a tour or hike.

We started touring around 1978 or 1979. Besides finding curvy roads we really enjoy visiting different parts of the country.

I sympathize with those who must anxiously await the end of winter. Having escaped northern Minnesota to Texas two years ago I thank my lucky stars and make it a point to ride weekly year-round. It's finally - FINALLY! - warming up here. Good Lord, what a LONGGGG winter! Breaking in the new RS. Interestingly, coming from a RR, the RS is also breaking ME in. My body position is sufficiently different that I feel it...just a matter of relaxing into the muscle memory for a new ride.
