Off Topic » Quick disconnect for negative terminal?

I'm installing quick disconnects on my vehicles. For the RS, there's no way to fit one in the limited space, and I could manage to just unscrew the negative terminal and pull the wire away, but rather than have a wrench/screwdriver on hand, is there an easier way...maybe a replacement screw/bolt that is easily hand-operated?

Immediate rhought - not a wire I want to come loose. For old hands like mine, the wing on the nut that would provide sufficient leverage wouldn't leave room for the battery....

Why not just leave it on a battery tender all the time?

You want to remove the one device on your vehicle that can protect you from EMP?
The battery is a great big surge protector.

No. EMPs don’t cause surges from outside. They create surges within a circuit…using the existing current. Disconnecting power is the best protection if one doesn’t have a Faraday cage or hardened electronics.

As more and more vehicles have “constant draw” on power because of more and more integrated computer technology, the more easily an EMP can immobilize a vehicle. If you have no computers, an EMP won’t do any lasting damage. So, anything with fuel injection on up is vulnerable.

It's preparation should the Ukraine situation spin out of control. If nukes start flying, even on a limited basis, the real hazard of an EMP being used on the USA is present.

"post event" I think taking your RS out for a ride will be the last thing I would consider, child of the 60's school education, old nuke warning films.
Even at Southend I think the 2 minute warning from a London centre impact 40 miles away, assuming I was at home, it would be too late once I got my keys, put on a coat and shoes to disconnect anything!

England is too small for a safe geographical area with so many strategic locations everywhere unlike usa where you may have a chance to survive

Pretty certain (any Preppys out there to confirm?) but being 'outside' on a bike would be too risky, better staying indoors, underground only moving outside in a protective vehicle or truck.
Logic being "anyone 'without' will be trying to take from those that have" so by the time the dust settles the battery on the RS will be fairly low on any to-do list.

And there was me leaving the bike on a hard wired fly lead looking forward to some rain to clean away the salty winter roads for a ride rather than thoughts of a nuclear winter.

Oh well, back to youtube and watching other riders 2022 holiday bike rides, sat in the warm, on my 3rd coffee of the day.

The most practical way to shelter electronics from EMP if you don't have a Faraday cage is to disconnect them from power. EMPs don't send energy but rather create an EM flux within a circuit...exciting the electrons already present...basically a power surge originating within a device rather than from an outside the device.

I'm equipping every vehicle so if the threat materializes, anyone can disconnect batteries without needing tools. My plan for the RS was to just disconnect the battery except for when I want to use the bike, but I was looking if they made one that could be fitted to a motorcycle battery. I already need adapters for the Prius which uses the smaller JIS standard posts and not SAE.
